is it just me or is it getting darker out there? has it always been like this?

every day about 150 species of animals go extinct. Some people don't even believe climate change is real, while its effects are so obvious and the entire biodiversity is falling apart.

Previous generations have left us with a garbage planet and it's our job to fix their inaction. What we need is more scientists and smart people that can come up with solutions for this, but I don't see anything, I feel like we are going backwards and almost nothing is done to help us.

my mom is somehow optimistic. whenever i mention that i do not want kids, (i mean do we really need more people on this dying planet?) she tells me that i'm still young to make that decision and that i need to marry a rich dude fast because my time is up. (i am 22, u twat, do not throw your insecurities at me)

i feel so angry lately, i understand humans don't care about each other, hence all the anti abortion laws in the US, and plethora of other issues in other parts of the world, such as poverty, rape, pedophilia, animal torture, & what not. its cliche, but things are starting to look like the handmaids tale.

How do you compete with stupidity and ignorance in numbers like this? We will never be at a point where enough of us are on the same page for long enough to actually fix things. The people with the power to fix things are blinded by dollar signs. The people that want to change things are stuck in front of their computers, screaming into the void, instead of doing anything about it. But really, what can we do? There are too many people in the world. Too many ignorant people. All I can do is refuse to be part of the problem. I don't participate in society, refuse to reproduce, and I'm at the point where I feel like I just need to be shut down to shield myself from the inevitable idiocy of the world. In general, people are shit. The more people we have, the more stupid people we have to contend with, the more land is destroyed, the more species and habitats lost, the sooner we cause our own idiotic demise.

What's bad about switching to public transportation? Car dependency is shit even without all the environmental baggage. Similarly, what is bad about limiting meat production and switching to alternative sources of protein? Less sentient beings will suffer that way.

Billionaires profit off of everything. War, peace, death - everything. And if anything, most billionaires are against restrictions put on them because of the environment. Climate change is well underway. There have been climate changes in the past but not this quickly and not this radical.

The shift towards clean energy is also well underway. Will billionaires make lots of money in this huge shift? Absolutely. Just like with every technological shift in the past.

Not sure exactly how shifting to clean energy screws the man on the street however. Electric cars are not any more expensive than gas burning cars. In many cases cheaper with government subsidies.

There's not going to be any limiting of meat production. Although meat is certainly getting quite expensive. The government is not forcing anybody to eat vegetarian. There is no meat tax.
The cattle lobby is extremely powerful. They once drove a setting senator out of office simply wanted to warn people of the dangers of eating meat. There's lots of very very rich and powerful people who want Americans consuming as much beef as possible.
If people switch away from meat eating it's going to be due to cost and health concerns.

What exactly is a climate lockdown?

There is certainly a legitimate argument that the response to Covid was excessive in terms of shutting society down. Most of the deaths from Covid were people with comorbidities. People with diabetes, obesity, the elderly. Perhaps we should have simply self sequestered the more vulnerable populations. But hospitals were overflowing and bodies were piling up. Political leaders felt like they had to do something. A million Americans did die of Covid. And a lot more would've died without a vaccine.

Next time there's a pandemic it's going to be mighty difficult for the government to force a shut down even with people dying in the streets. I don't see a political appetite for that. Can't imagine there's going to be another lockdown anytime soon for anything. The public simply would not stand for it.

Well masks actually do prevent the dissemination of viruses. Wearing that mask on your face is not going to stop you from getting sick. "Common sense" would be knowing that wearing those masks only transfers the germs to an object and to your hands etc.. Not to mention all of the used masks I seen lying around on the floors in public places.. It is a SYMBOL.
