Around 79 years for most developed countries, hell! I'm 32 and I have already seen and done everything that interests me in life.

For most of history until the late 19th century, the average life expectancy was around 30, I know it was because people's lives were shitty and they had no basic hygiene, but still, I think 80 is way too long.

Yes, i think so as well. I've talked to people who want to live forever and I don't think they quite understand what that even means, it's incomprehensible to our brains.
The life expectancy rate will most likely keep increasing over time.
Fuck, 26 is long enough for me.

Life is too long but when when I look back at it, it feels short if that makes any sense. I dont think we were ever designed with the intention of being happy in this lifetime because we spend most of our life either struggling or suffering. The craziest thing from my own experience of getting close to death when SI is at its strongest, no matter how bad you want to die when your body instinctively tells you that "you are on the brink of death" . You would do anything in your power to be alive. Thats why it is necessary to implement a method with no chance of backing out like sleeping in case of N because you will bypass the threahold of SI at its strongest when you finally know you are close to the other side. No question about it

I think those people who want to live forever have a god complex, they must be very hedonistic and full of themselves. I personally don't see any appeal to it.

Living forever to me seems like the Q in Star Trek, being immortal beings they got so insanely bored after experiencing everything there is to experience in the universe that one of them asked the others to use their collective power to make him a mortal just so he could experience death, which was the last thing he hadn't experienced yet.

Yep, CTB is really hard because your mind and your body are designed to go against it, the hardest part of CTB is to actually overcome your survival instinct, it takes a very strong will to do so. And when you finally manage to do it, your subconscious takes over and immediately makes you regret it before you actually die.

Funny how people were against anesthesia for years to provide people peace. Just shows how idiotic society can be. Kind of like going against AS, bastards will realize they were all wrong 50 years later. Fyi only watched half of this video. Fauci is in this video too ironically

I've said something similar to this recently.

Honestly?

I think it depends. Some people have a good, long life,
Some don't.

I wish life had a reset button.

We were never meant to live that long. It shows in the fact that your body breaks down more and more the older you get.

If older people keep living to be older and older, then younger folks will have to keep working longer to take care of them. Sounds horrible!

my grandmother was 93 when she passed and all she wanted to do was die peacefully, and she ended up passing in her sleep. she had been telling the family she wanted to die since she was 80 because of health issues. but yeah they didn't want her to. it was very hard to see her suffer for as long as she did

It's worth noting that the statistic about the historical average lifespan being 30 doesn't mean that people tended to die around 30. Without modern medicine and hospital facilities artificially keeping me alive, for example, I would have died within days or weeks of being born due to chronic asthma, while another person might have lived to 60 or so, hence 30 being the mean average.

But if we use the word 'expectancy' in the very different context of society expecting everyone to gladly live beyond 90 - and for young people of today, expect the norm for your generation to be 100+ unless wars or ecological calamities disrupt the statistical trends - then each individual should be free to determine for themselves what is or is not too long. This is a mature discussion that has to take place at some point, even if it makes certain people uncomfortable.

For me personally, it is about having a genuine place here - helping others, making things better, etc. If so, I could go for a long time. If not, one day is too long.

Yes, in my opinion the life expectancy is far too long. Old age is my worst nightmare, no matter what I will make sure I never get there. I must ctb to prevent decades of suffering. Old age is just watching yourself decay physically and mentally. It is cruel how the society denies us the option of a peaceful exit, it is our life and our decision after all and some people simply do not want to reach an old age.

This. Even stable people seem to turn into dull, lifeless, bitter machines the longer they live. Cause as a child there's still so much to do and so much hopeless optimism. But thirty years in it just a matter of repeating the same boring tasks endlessly. People look back at their life remembering weddings and holidays and funerals and parties, when like 90 percent of life is cleaning, cooking, shitting, going to work, sleeping, walking, etc. And that's fine and all but with your body naturally deteriorating and mundane life stuff turning into mundane painful life stuff and nothing left to make you excited I see no point in living this long.

Sure is, the country I live is so desperate because In the near future the elderly population will be more than youngster that they are facilitating the new entry of immigrants to stay and get their papers done fast. I personally don't wanna pass 50. Still have a long time to reach that age, but was always stuck in my head.

38 here and it has been waaaay too long. Each passing year and decade seems to be worse than the last, so my 40's can fuck off. I don't want them lol
I will say, though, age is a number. Some people love life even into old age. I am just speaking for me personally. I don't begrudge anybody a long, healthy and happy life. It's just not on the cards for me, so.

I think we live too long. I'm not interested in existing in a state of decline. I have a peculiar sense of all being right when seeing public figures, musicians and the like, leaving the world after contributing much, but still being relatively young and healthy. I like to remember them that way. And it makes me very sad to see the same sorts of people being betrayed by their bodies when their gifts have been brutalized by age or disease.

Yes, it's too damn long. BUT... trust me that at 30ish, you've got so much more to experience.

I know, I know, I sound like an old lady. Which I kind of am. But I didn't meet my husband until I was 35+ and got married at 38. Since then, I've traveled and seen more of the world than I saw in the first 35 years. Plus, some things just can't happen until you're older.

I know lots of people who aim to live to 100, and I think they're nuts.I know very few people who are over the age of 80 who get up every day with a smile on their heart, lol. They often have medical issues that are destroying their quality of life and are just not as mentally sharp as they used to be.

Part of the reason we are living so much longer is the same reason it's so hard to ctb: the world has gotten much, much safer. The invention of the seatbelt has increased average life expectancy by decades. Seatbelt mandates and airbags by more. Traffic accidents that cause fatalities are newsworthy now, where they were commonplace in the 60s and 70s.

Babies and children do not die of preventable diseases like they used to and we close the whole world for a virus. Germ theory and the discovery of antibiotics have increased the average lifespan by decades as well.

It is no longer easy to die young.

Oh god yes. I was pretty much done by age 28—nothing much has changed since then. Worse, of course, is that you realize nothing will change. So you're stuck, spending the next 40 years as if wandering a parking lot, unable to remember where you parked the car…

Long life expectancy isn't the real problem. It is
A) how damn difficult it is to live a meaningful life of purpose and community in present socioeconomic conditions
B) how difficult it is (not really, but effectively due to 'sanctity of life' culture) to assure a peaceful and dignified exit for those who've decided to leave after considering it thoroughly
C) something i'm forgetting idk im writing this in a hurry

It really is just the luck of the draw. Some people have good fortunes and good health in life and some don't. Nobody is guaranteed anything. My brother died at 7 years old (before I was born). He was killed by a school bus. There are also many kids dying of terminal illnesses in children's hospitals. I am glad you managed to marry and travel. You had some good fortunes there. Happy to hear that. I wish everybody a life of joy and wisdom as they age. I however (especially after acquiring N) am ready to throw in the towel. Some people just get tired of life after a while, but it is always good to keep going if you are strong enough and have hope. I, personally, would rather have a good death than a bad life. Old age is not for me.

Rush has a bittersweet song about that, "Losing It", with allusions to Hemingway, in that regards...
(I always liked the idea of Greek heroes ascending and becoming constellations in the sky, as opposed to withering away in a slow decline...)

The dancer slows her frantic pace
In pain and desperation,
Her aching limbs and downcast face
Aglow with perspiration

Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire,
With just the briefest pause —
The flooding through her memory,
The echoes of old applause.

She limps across the floor
And closes her bedroom door…

The writer stares with glassy eyes —
Defies the empty page,
His beard is white, his face is lined
And streaked with tears of rage.

Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
With passion and precision,
But now his mind is dark and dulled
By sickness and indecision

And he stares out the kitchen door
Where the sun will rise no more…

Some are born to move the world —
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things we'd like to be

Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you — the blind who once could see —
The bell tolls for thee…
