I think it depends on your reasons for listening to them and what you are getting out of it. for me i find it cathartic most of the time, other times it self perpetuates my impulsive desires

I can also only listen to angry, empowering, or sad music. I find it "cheesy" or just difficult to listen to happy music. I do think its good to be open and to try new music genres, but I think you should just listen to whatever you love and go for it.

But 50s doowap and Irish folk songs rock my shit
I recently started listening to some doo wop tunes, it really is quite something. Great music.

Music does have an affect on your mood, so probably. But the amount of effect it has on your life is probably not much.

both suicideboys and irish folk songs go hard. i think folk songs are the closest i'll get most of the time to listening to joyful music and not getting aggravated or more depressed, but even with folk songs i tend to lean towards more emotionally neutral or darker themes (e.g. go dig my grave).
