I think I might be autistic but I'm not sure. I believe I demonstrate a lot of the signs but if I get assessed and I'm not autistic then I feel like I'm a bad person
But that is exactly why you would get an assessment, right? That doesn't make you a bad person that makes you a person who is taking care of themselves.
Not at all a bad person, assessments are for everyone. I definitely feel this, though, I felt the same way regarding getting an ADHD assessment as an adult. I finally bit the bullet and did it! You should definitely give it a try if you feel it would help give some meaning to have a diagnosis.
1. People who know they have autism and want/need it on record for benefits/comfort (schools supports, government disability, even just an official label if it makes them feel more valid)
2. People who know something (but not what) is up and need/want confirmation/answers

i felt like this too. i got checked for adhd, and didn't have it- "nonconclusive". dont worry about it, your mind makes you feel like its worse than it is (not having it). oftentimes theyll refer you to someone else if you still have concerns, so its not "admitting nothing is wrong with you", rather admitting its a different struggle in your life than can be improved on. the people that check others for autism for a living have definitely experienced negative results- just part of life. i would get checked, or at least go on the waitlist if you're unsure (adult ones can be really long).
Even if the assessment comes back negaitive, its nothing to feel bad for! you arent wasting resources or anybody's time, its just to find out more about urself which is really good.
dont feel ashamed for taking an assessment on these!
