You're likely to convulse and make noise. I guess it depends on how heavy of a sleeper they are. I'd still recommend against it though.

I wouldn't. Your body will convulse after you lose consciousness. You'll also make noise, which, if the convulsing doesn't do it, will most certainly attract attention

I seem to lack the courage to even attempt this since backing out a few weeks ago.

when i attempted hanging i thrashed around so much i knocked a bunch of heavy things down, would not recommend that
