Hey u guys, I recently moved into a new studio which has 2 small vents but no windows. I've never stayed in a room without windows so I'm concerned if it's bad for me? Main problem I noticed is that I'm really unable to sleep at night....usually before moving here, i would fall asleep by latest 3am...Here, I end up staying awake upto 6am or so before I actually fall asleep due to tiredness from being awake the whole night. Any explanation as to why this may be happening? I'm so confused! šŸ¤”

So, the body thrives off of natural light, something to do with one's circadian rhythm. I would advise trying to see the sunset every night so your body isn't confused on the time. Try to soak up vitamin D when you are outside too IE: don't put on long sleeves.

I guess it's hard because you're body can't really tell when it's night or day. If it bothers you at all, I would try getting a sun lamp, I heard it helps with this sort of thing.

I have one window in my bedroom and bought a black out curtain last year. It can really mess with my energy sometimes since it's always dark (or dim) in my room, but I do try to go out for a short walk if I can.

Living in a room with no windows isn't good for you as you're not getting any natural sunlight, having the joy of being able to look out the window if the sky is pretty and I'd imagine the room would be pretty dark.

You probably can't sleep due to what someone has said before this, that it pretty much messes up your perception of time as you have no clue if it's day or night. Going outside and getting plenty of exercise or going out for a walk will definitely help though.

Providing you do something productive outside of the house you should be fine. In terms of sleeping maybe just try to do something that gets you tired so that you don't end up staying up all night.

I live in a room whitout windows and I'm here too. If that helps. Similar struggles not being able to sleep at night. Probably dosen't help the depression or anxiety either.

For what it's worth, I live in a house with windows, but I never open the blinds on any of them. What for? I already know all I need to know about what is out there in the world and none of it is for me.

No, I go out once or twice a week. I'm not working out either.

So then it's exactly what I thought it was...not being able to sleep because my body is confused?

Thankyou so much for your help and advice...I will try to do that even though I'm so depressed...

Now I can finally understand what has been happening to me...thankyou to you and everyone who answered my question. I really appreciate your advice. šŸ„°

Exactly, making my depression and anxiety worse each day I'm in here...

I hear you...I feel the same...glad you have a room with windows though, I didn't know it would have such an effect on my sleeping habits.

My brother lived in a crappy tiny flat for a while. I remember the bedroom didn't have a window to outside, it only had a window to the living room. I remember thinking how weird that was.

Most people would definitely say that living in a room with no windows, especially if you spend a lot of time in there could be a detriment to mood. The place I lived at last year had no rooms and I was sort of used to it.

Maybe I'm desensitized to it and maybe my agoraphobia affects my perspective but I feel like I could personally do as okay in a windowless room with good lighting as I could in a room with a window. Regardless, I do want to emphasize that I could just be a little too used to living in the darkness and not notice if it has made me more depressed.

I'd like to live in a cave in the side of a mountain. Well, maybe, I guess I used to. I don't care to live anymore at all, so I guess it really doesn't matter where I exist over the next several months. Still, for me, it would have been cool to live in a cave.
