so im from the good ol US, this is my preferred ctb method and i too will be legally purchasing the firearm with which to do the damn thing - i assume as long as you dont have a criminal record (they run a background check right then and there usually) or history of mental illness, they just let you buy it . also my roommate bought his this year with zero issues

I had zero issue buying my gun to ctb with. They never asked me any questions and did the background check and I walked out with it.

Yes, even if you weren't using it to CTB, it is a good idea to get a gun.

Your application will be accepted as long you don't have any obstacles like a criminal history.

If you ever been hospitalized for suicidal ideation then you no longer pass background checks. That is what happened to me. I am not mentally ill. I just wanted to escape the pain.

Like @ascetic_ said, it is a good idea to get a gun even if you don't plan on using it for ctb.

At the very least, get a lockable case for it, if you are able to obtain one.

It will keep the gun away from prying eyes, and from anyone else in your household mishandling it and hurting themselves.

I would like to add to this a bit. I was hospitalized in highschool for the same, but since it wasn't technically "involuntarily committed" (ie determined by a judge) it never showed up. Aside from that my record was squeaky clean. Also I live in Mass if that makes a difference.

I don't have a criminal record, but I was in a psych ward many years ago. More than ten years ago probably 2010 if I remember correctly. Do you think that would still pose an issue if I purchase a firearm ? This is the reason I hate going to therapists. But I've been clear since 2010.
I'm from California sadly. Planning to buy a firearm here soon and make a road trip to Arizona or neighboring state where I don't get arrested for having a loaded firearm. Only got a small window frame for ctb if I do. It's the only plan I see feasible as SN is so hard to come by.

I was hospitalized more than 10 years ago. I don't think it was involuntary committed, but I do remember I was told I would have to get a judge permit if I joined the army in the following five or so years.
But it's been more than 10. I don't know if that would show up on my background check now that I'm trying to CBD with a firearm ?

Does it matter how long ago this hospitalization was ? What if it was over a decade ago ?

Get a large caliber rifle. One which uses 5.56 bullets, or 7.62 or 30-08 or 20ga or 12ga
