Discussion Is anyone else strongly motivated to CTB due to capitalism?

Although I have a multitude of other issues, I feel like I'd still have some hope for life if it wasn't for capitalism. But thanks to this system setup by greedy bastards I've lost all hope as I don't see the point in living when I'm gonna have to work till I'm like 65 and that's even ignoring the strong possibility of climate change + capitalism getting even more extreme, making it so that I might not even get to live till retirement. Everyday I ask myself how anyone who isn't wealthy could willingly have children.

Sometimes I feel suicidal because of capitalism—its grind, its cruelty, its indifference. But then I think, if this system is going to exist regardless, maybe I can make it work for me. I'm planning to start my own business, to dip my hands into capitalism and see if I can benefit from it too. It's risky, sure. But that's capitalism.

I'm with you on that. I have been getting better mentally recently but I am still completely suicidal because I can't imagine a good future. It's just working and getting paid poorly on that work. Till I die probably because they keep pushing back the retirement age.

I also really don't like living in a world where the bad people win all the time, earlier this year Elon Musk's DOGE program tried to shut down USAID, an organization that's purpose was literally to help struggling people in foreign countries. In what possible reality is that what we should be doing for 'government efficiency'. Heaven forbid my tax dollars go to a good cause instead of organizations like ICE which tear apart families. And at the end of the day he's still a billionaire who gets anything he wants. And those people who would've been effected by that shutdown (a federal judge blocked it thank god) are still going to struggle. I just don't think I can really be content when America is built on making evil people win.

This is a massively complex subject and somewhat akin to kicking a hornet nest... but some of us whom feel that without capitalism, we'd be speaking a different language and being used as fertiliser for the soil of Eastern Europe.

Yeah the pressure to get a good job with health insurance before I lose mine go back to college get my own place be able to afford basic necessities is driving me to want to kms I don't want to participate in the rat race and it's not normal I'm tired of all the people around me acting like it's normal

Unregulated capitalism is terrible for the average citizen. I've read horror stories from the late 19th and early 20th centuries when capitalism ran unchecked with barely any oversight. Child labor, radium girls, company towns, workhouses. But when properly controlled, it can be great for a country. I was born when my country was still mostly a centrally planned economy. From the stories my parents and relatives told me, it was absolute hell to have a private enterprise with only people employed directly by the state and central governments having secure jobs, pensions, free housing and regular salary increments. Constant and unnecessary audits, opaque bureaucracies and ridiculously high income taxes were the norm not the exception. Only those who bribed the right officials would enjoy smooth sailing in private business.

On a personal level when I was born, there was only one single telecom provider, state-owned of course. They were so inefficient and corrupt that it took two years to get a landline from the time of application. Today with multiple telecom providers in the private sector, it's only a few days at most. Wouldn't have been possible without capitalism.

Capitalism strangely enough allowed my parents to do well for a time. Poor financial planning and bad luck changed it in the end which is a part of the reason why I'm here.

Yea :( Recently moved to my first apartment with a roommate and it's been rough. I'm paycheck-to-paycheck now. I'm trying to finish college so I can become a park naturalist, but even if I do i know it won't pay much, and I'll still be stressed about money. That on top of everything else happening in my own life and politically has completely zapped my hope for the future. I thought i'd gotten over suicidal thoughts. That, or I just wanna run away to another country and disappear from everyone I know and be a hermit in the woods.

It's one of my reasons but my main reasons are disability / poor mental health and a very miserable "life"

There's the saying Capitalism is the worst system , except for all the others. Over time most systems tends to go to extremes and we're seeing that currently. Started when they removed allot of the bank regulations in the 80s. Theres a natural push to continue to makes thing " better ". It's has the possibility to be a great system but the human element tends to get in the way.
