As much as I would like to ctb, this seems dystopic. Government approved assisted ctb for the homeless and very poor... this just seems like eugenics to me.

Yes, it's true, dystopian and eugenics looks cruel but there are many people in this forum and in general who are begging for voluntary and painless euthanasia,the right to choose over their body to put an end to this miserable and unbearable existence. And these poor people can do it also voluntarily. Maybe it is the right step for the future this law could be expanded to anyone who desires to end his life imo

Maybe you're right, idk there is a lot of different things at play and I don't think there is any easy answer. The headline made it seem like you could do it because of lack of personal wealth but from looking at the bill online that doesn't seem to be the case, although I'm not 100% sure on that one. The main thing is by 2023/2024 Mental illness would be a viable reason in Canada to ctb, in the same way physical illness is.
