A bolt pistol only knocks animals out, so they can be killed humanely(or just not making a big mess)

I wouldn't rely on that to CTB, and like @Thanatos said, it's basically to knock an animal out so they wouldn't be conscious during the process of slaughtering them for consumption.

Don't use this. In the UK we had a time when a disease called Foot and Mouth ravaged farm animals and a lot of farmers lost their income and tried to commit suicide with this. The vast majority ended up severely disfigured.

I think I remember reading that people have succeeded, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading about failures

In a situation with no alternatives I might try it if I knew I wouldn't be found

No clue what waking up after that would be like (without being found), or if it's even possible without medical care

I know very little about the method and have never used a captive bolt pistol
