Whereas episodes caused from many other traumatic scenarios and mental states have over the decades become to be more accepted as not being simple fixes, the same can hardly be said for problems with love-life. From both extremes of regular social platitudes to psychology and mental health services, it is clear this is the case. Breakups or the like are not treated as an inherent risk that other issues are. Yet, in a 2017 study of precipitating causes in the United States, 'intimate partner problems' ranks third (21%) as a risk factor to suicide behind only a very vague and all-encompassing 'diagnosed mental health problems' (50%) and 'recent or upcoming crisis' (31%); way ahead of many widely treated and attended to issues like 'alcohol problem' (18%) and 'substance abuse' (18%).
