i think all young men would be happier if they had one completely platonic female friend instead of taking dating advice from middle aged podcasters who have never been in a successful relationship and want to make money while dragging the younger generation down with them.

recently i've even been getting female black pill content and women repeating black pill stuff in a female lens? so it's just over for everyone i guess lol historians will skip over gen z

I guess to develop it's just like, incredibly sad that the whole business model is just monetizing suffering to some degree. I'm going off on a tangent I guess but they always make the excuse that its too hard to moderate content when you have that many users. Maybe if you can't manage that basic level of protecting people you shouldn't be able to make that much money. Idk, I went off on a rant kinda but it's sad to see it.

I've been treated as disgusting my entire life for my looks. In junior year, I managed to get some close (100% platonic) female friends. Everyone but my family let me know how disgusting I look. My entire life I've tried my best to appear better, followed all the advice I could, but in middle school I started believing in what bp believed before I even knew what bp was LOL. In high school, people laughed at me when they saw me. Sometimes the content is pushed because of real life experiences that relate to it. I still try to improve myself, consistently trying to be healthy and going to the gym and whatnot, but never in my life will I ever be able to feel not-ugly!

Doesn't make it any less fucked up. Same thing happens with young girls/AFABs who are struggling with their body. TikTok and other platforms often send them down the pro-ana rabbithole. Been there, done that.

Point is, just because people have experiences that lead them to maladaptive views on life, does not mean people should be funneled into those spaces just because they have those experiences too. That's how you create echo chambers and online cults.

This is interesting being in the philosophy section.

It's a bigger problem than just social media. The problem is the ascribing of human value based on physical appearance, full stop. But this predates social media - celebrity/entertainment culture is rooted in the same problem. As long as we've had mass media, this has just been getting worse. Beauty standards are constructs, differing across time and place; regardless, there are traits that are universally considered physically attractive and exceptionally good-looking people are not statistically the norm. But now that we're constantly bombarded with images of them - and their conditions usually being "successful" by default - we're all fucked up chasing this dragon that's made of papier maché.

The problem is we've long left the world of biology behind, where most animals either have a preference for more attractive partners anyway and/or the fittest have an edge, but not everyone needs to be hot shit to have worth in a social group. We've distilled life down to who's the most fuck-worthy because most of the needs for life in modern urban settings are fulfilled by slaves on the other side of the planet we'll never meet. People who are unattractive to us have no opportunity to be of reciprocal social value or support cause, well, we don't need them.

I would like to add that social media is an issue, though. It isn't just the concept of how the more people an idea reaches, the more it spreads, it's also the rise in algorithms encouraging people to join these groups via pattern recognition.

They find someone who is vulnerable and funnel them into blackpill bullshit because most people who get into blackpill bullshit were vulnerable when they started. Correlation versus causation. Computers and AI cannot properly account for that.

I meant to say that imo it's not a novel issue; I see it as the natural evolution of/successor to of all the avaricious corporate practices of modern urban life. Like market research done by beauty (pharmaceutical) product makers - extracting the deepest insecurities of focus group participants in order to target the psychological vulnerabilities of the masses most effectively.

It's not unlike the way "wellness" grifters go after populations actively harmed by (not ironically in many instances the same) pharma corps., pedalling bullshit do-nothing products (or in some cases actively harmful ones).
It's capitalism, baby - sell people the fulfillment of their desires, even if the things you sell them are fake and the desires were manufactured.

i don't even know what these pill words mean and i'm not interested either. i'll just assume the worst since i do know they come from incel culture. why would a woman have to step in and be the fix for men creating harmful ideologies and communities for themselves? especially when those ideologies do harm to women too. men can put an end to their own shit but they won't. they know what they're doing. sorry that ur cousin became a victim to this type of advice on social media. i really do think it's just over now too since incels are allowed a platform.
