Literally every day, I'm tired. I've not felt alert or awake in years. I sleep roughly 10-12 hours a night, if I get less than 8 hours I'm a zombie, but I'm still absolutely exhausted every single day. I fall asleep in classes and often have to nap through the day. I can never motivate myself to do anything or go anywhere because I'm so so SO fucking tired. All I want is to feel awake again.

Seconding @overcomingfear on the diet comment. Do you eat a lot of sugary foods? What about caffiene?

I don't eat a lot of sugar, I'm veggie but make sure I have enough protein, I'd say maybe I don't get enough greens in some days though, I don't know. But I've changed my diet several times and nothing seems to change it. Also my sleeping schedule is essentially non-existent because my shifts always change, plus on days I don't work I try to sleep as long as I can to avoid tiredness.

I don't think I eat that much sugar, and caffeine wise I normally have like one cup of coffee a day.

Is it due to mental health reasons? Or is it something else you could go see a doctor about and maybe get a blood test

It's not the diet then, I'll never work a job with changing shifts, i suggest u look for a different one. No money can buy good sleep, it's not normal to change it so regularly

Have you tried a weighted duvet? The issue for me was waking up 10+ times every night and not getting any REM sleep. The weighted duvet didn't completely fix the issue, but now I am okay with 9 hours sleep instead of 10-11. I still never feel rested, but I'm less tired than before.

There is such a thing as sleeping too much also. You may need to find the right amount of sleep for you each night. Maybe try something before bed like meditating or something else relaxing. Someone else suggested a weighted blanket, I've wanted one for a long time and hear they're really good. Diet as well, caffeine intake, sugar etc all will leave you feeling kinda lousy.

I'd suggest seeing a doctor to rule out physical health issues. There are several endocrine illnesses that cause you to sleep too much, and it can also be a symptom of a neurological condition. Tell the doctor you have chronic fatigue.
It might be a consequence of depression, but it's still worth a try to rule out physical issues.

Could be thyroid issue, to some extent diet, hormone deficiency. Sleep phase disorder, depression, medication. I felt amazing when I got hormone replacement but can't afford it anymore. I had like a whole lot more drive and energy when they gave me testosterone especially. I felt like I woke up from some fog I been in for years lol!

It's possible you might actually be sleeping too much. Personally I wake up perfectly refreshed after only 5hrs of sleep no more no less, maybe try changing your sleeping schedule and reducing how much you sleep.

Have you tried taking vitamin D and B complex. It gives you a lot of energy. 10-12 hours is a lot though. Not that I'm judging you. But maybe consider trying those vitamins. Worked for me.

Sorry for not replying to most of the things on this thread guys. Got kind of overwhelmed with it, I won't lie.

I have to work this job to stay alive, it's the highest paid job with the lowest qualification possible and I even struggle to make ends meet now.

I'll have a look at weighted blankets as mentioned a couple times here. Maybe it will help decrease the anxiety too.

I'm not a very active person. I work part time at a low activity job, and when I'm at home I normally stay inside all day, too sad to do anything much during the day. I think I eat fairly well.
It's possible you might actually be sleeping too much. Personally I wake up perfectly refreshed after only 5hrs of sleep no more no less, maybe try changing your sleeping schedule and reducing how much you sleep.
I've tried every sleeping schedule you can think of. Makes absolutely zero difference. 5-6 hours is far too little, I fall asleep during the day if I get less than 8 hours.

He just can't resist me... ;-)

I used to be on vitamin D years ago for the same problem. Did absolutely nothing for me and tasted like shit so stopped taking them.
Do you mean physically tired or emotionally tired from the depression?
I'm not sure. It's just a fucked up mixture of both of them I think, which makes things hard to determine. But even before I had depression, I had issues with being tired.

Also, if you are extremely motivated you can research and try an "Elemination and Challenge Diet" to see if food intolerances are causing some or all of your issues. I know lots about nutrition and I would bet you lunch that you have food intolerances and you are reacting adversely to something inside your diet.

Should you be motivated to learn about this google and read about this diet.

Further, I started a thread in Off Topic wirh "Sizzling Steak" in the title. I suggest you view it to better understand how some of this stuff works.

Also, you can think about having blood work done by your physican to check things like iron level and vitamin B 12 levels.

I believe you can fix this problem.
