  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

1. Impossible - because of parallel universes or the likes of that concept. Dying in one Universe doesn't bring death in all the others (no actual evidence for that, but I cannot brush the possibility aside either).
2. Irrelevant - I may kill myself successfully, but it will not solve the more outstanding issue - the fact that I had no choice in being born. None of us chose this Universe, it's laws, our place in it and so on. And with scenarios like the Big Crunch being a possibility, I can't help but be in stupefied amusement at the situation I find myself in.

So what should I do? Despite all the things that can be called good, I hate this Universe, mainly because of how oppressive it really is.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

For the first point, if there are parallel universes then there's nothing to say the parallel versions of ourselves are in the same place as us where death is the best course of action for them. So perhaps there wouldn't be a need for us to die in every parallel universe. Unless you would still desire to be gone in all of them regardless of the state of mind of the version of you in each one. Just thoughts, I don't really believe in parallel universes or much of anything, but in the hypothetical they did exist I don't see any reason to assume the version of us there would be the same way we are here.
For the second point, I agree that none of us chose to be here and I don't know what to do about that either. I don't know what to say though.

For what you should do I have no idea honestly nor do I even know what options you might be considering. I hope you're able to come to a conclusion yourself that you feel is best for you. Best wishes whatever you decide to do.

Yeah, but there's that rock and there's that hard place. The physical, scientifically established laws have proven pretty damn successful the past few hundred years. To me, the rest is philosophical, academic puffery. Chances are it's lights out on every level after cessation of brain activity, And if not, one can log on from the other side and surprise us. It's not Star Trek. If we had real, solid evidence of anything "supernatural" or survival after death, not merely NDE anecdotes, we'd have them by now. I simply don't buy any of it. When we go, we are no more. Occam's razor.

I personally do not believe in parallel universes or anything like that. As you said there is no evidence that such a thing even exists. I believe that when we die we simply cease to exist, we are gone. When we lose consciousness that is it for us, we cannot experience anything once we are dead. Because of this, I see death as being very comforting, death is true peace. I wish you the best in whatever happens.

There's good scientific reason to believe in the Many Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics. But there's much less reason to assume this means anything for us on our deaths

Quantum immortality would be too easily disproven, though only the person experiencing the scenario would be aware of it, like if you just repeatedly did something that had a 99.9% chance to kill you (like jumping off a thousand foot cliff). Even if you miraculously survived the first attempt, you could just do it again and again until you succeeded. And for other parallel realities where other "you's" might exist, they're irrelevant even if they are real.

Sounds like you're really just stuck between thinking and thinking some more. Suicide is considered a major problem in the philosophical world, you might be interested in perusing the many different dominant opinions. You might notice that many philosophers wind up ending their own lives. Metaphysically, I don't have much knowledge. Spiritually is a whole 'nother matter.

To me, ending life on this plane is opening the possibility of continuing life on another plane. I'm not optimistic about that. I assume it will be even worse. But, I have no evidence, nor does anybody else, and I generally find myself more willing to take that risk than stay as things are.

Many Worlds Interpretation, Open Individualism, Generic Subjective Continuity, etc, but mainly many worlds/ multiverse are what stop me, I wish I could actually know if Everett is correct or not
