  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

  • There'd be government-sanctioned processes allowing for physician-assisted suicide with granted eligibility for those who voluntarily consent.
  • Police officers and any other public safety workers won't detain or arrest you for suicidal ideations or gestures.
  • You could openly talk about what belongings you'd want to give, gift, or donate to anyone you'd choose.
  • Your passing would be as painless as modern medicine allows, and your body will be presentable if you choose to have a funeral.
  • Furthermore, your passing will be one-hundred percent lethal without the worry of living the rest of your life in a comatose state.
  • You won't have to worry about the legality of obtaining chemical compounds, the cost of purchasing a firearm, or the uncertainty of a ligature.
  • There'd be no stigma—suicide would be normalized as a valid option by those who seek it, on-par with any other medical procedure.
  • Friends and families wouldn't grieve; they'd accept a passing of a loved one by respecting their decision and their sovereign control over their bodies.
  • And you could tell anyone of your plans, they'd understand; you wouldn't feel the need for a last-minute letter, message, or note.
  • You wouldn't have to find refuge in a hotel room or your residence where you may be interrupted or worry about the moments after the fact.
  • No worker would have to be inconvenienced or traumatized by your death (railroad workers, hotel staff, aftermath services, paramedics, etc.)
  • No one would have to witness any blood, disfigurement, or unfortunate images of their loved ones upon finding them.
  • If you tell someone—they wouldn't project their own savior complexes onto you or send you the suicide hotline number.
  • And if you tell a therapist—you wouldn't be involuntarily committed inside any inpatient health facility.

I don't think suicide has to be a traumatic experience for any party involved. If suicide weren't socially deviant, there'd be virtually no trauma or inconvenience to anyone. Combined with institutions and practices that allow for sanctioned suicide, it'd be a net benefit to society.

I think we should at least give the option of physician-assisted suicide to those who seek it after a comprehensive review from multiple doctors, evaluation of age and other life factors, consent from the patient receiving it, a mandated attempt at recovery, and a tentative waiting period before the option is available.

Realistically this won't ever happen because, with the way people in general are, people would try to disguise murders at suicides. This would only work if most people were highly ethical- but then if most people were highly ethical tehn most people who want to ctb wouodn't want to- the root causes of ctb usually include highly unethical treatment from some people. The system could and should be developed so that people with serious physical health problems have this option, and some countries already have this.

I wish those were all true- I think many of them could be if things change. People would still grieve though. I think it would be easier in a society with legal assisted suicide that wasn't stigmatized, but losing people will always hurt.

Yes, it really would be so great if suicide was not so stigmatised. To me there is nothing more ideal than being able to peacefully pass away at a time of our own choosing without the fear of ctb failing or all of the complicated method research. I believe that it would make life more bearable for many people just having the option of a legalised peaceful way out of this life. I see no benefit or value to suffering in a life that we never asked for against our wishes. We do deserve to be able to make the choice over our own lives and when to end it, and have this decision respected.

Taking a man's life is a crime against his will. Forcing someone who wants to end their life to live is also a crime and bullying. Questioning the sanity of a suicidal person is a trick. This is the result of a conservative and bigoted view of suicide for historical and cultural reasons. The sanity of someone who has a license to drive is not questioned. The person who buys the gun is also not questioned. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in the world actually die in traffic accidents caused by mentally tired and unhealthy people. Think of the massacres with weapons. In these cases, the mental health of the perpetrators never comes to the fore, but they are expected to be suddenly rational when they want to end their own lives. Human behavior has never been rational in nature. Our personal choices and our lives are the result of impulsive actions. We are just as rational in doing our job, as much as possible. If someone whose behavior and choices have been based on causality and impulsivity all his life wants to end his life, the rationality card is played. For the masters of the slaves, the strongest criticism of the system is suicide, and they will do anything to prevent it.

Yeah people would still grieve but at least not try to force "salvation" on us.

At least trans lifeline doesn't do "active rescue" against people's will.

I wonder about getting the services of a "death doula," even if we ultimately couldn't tell them plan details, just to talk for a while.

(Oh I wanted to say also - yes it's true people would try to disguise murders, coerced "agreement" to euthanasia, forged signatures on "DNI" orders, and so on, that way... But that already happens now.)
