South Korean. Japanese, Russian or something African?

I don't look up statisitcs. I read in the Oceania region there are high suicide rates.

Which country has the strongest association of suicid for you? For me probably South Korea.
It is weird. I think there might be no numbers on North Korea but they people in South Korea should have a better life quality theoretically. Maybe there is not enough education and means in the North?

I agree with you that South Korea comes to mind most when I think about high rates of suicide. I've seen reporting about insane work expectations, competing for affluence, an ageing population where the young feel pressured to care for elders and elders feel abandoned by the young, and serious wealth disparities all contributing to this.

But on the other hand, they also have decent public heath statistics and a mainly independent media to make this public. In many other countries I suspect suicides are classified as "natural death" in official statistics, and are therefore grossly underreported.

I had Finnish neighbors & twice in three years the mother screamed cuz of bad news she got in her homeland.

Twice in three years might not seem like a lot, but some people don't know anyone whose ctb let alone in their family

So I think of Finland. Even though their human development index is one of thee best for some reason there is still an issue

Around ten years ago the Japanese suicide rate was running around 70 per day. And this was regarded as being under reported even then.
Plus there are so many young people now who self isolate in their rooms, refusing to come out, that there is even a new word in the Japanese language to describe a young person who stays isolated in their room for over 6 months, "Hikikomori". Many of these young folk go on to ctb.

Probably Norway. Apparently though its one of the happiest countries in the world, it has the most suicide rates.

Russian because we're all rushin' to die.

Or Finnish so that we can all finish our existences.

Maybe Spain because it's Pain with an S.

I don't see it so much as something unhappy and driven by suffering- although it is of course.

When I think about the (successful) act itself, I think of freedom so, it would be a nationality that was more free and forward thinking for me. Predictably, a nation that allows assisted suicide for a start. Maybe Belgium or Switzerland.

Or all of them because "we're all rushin to finish pain" (regardless we're not in Spain).
