I've told my therapist this. I've said if it was easy I'd do it. "If it was a switch, I'd use it". So definitely. What a dream

Just wanting some peace

An instant painless way to be permanently free from this torturous, futile existence is just all I wish and hope for, all I want is to be unconscious with no more pain and suffering, all I want is peace from the mistake of existence that just causes so much suffering all for the sake of it and problems there were never a need for with no limit as to how much one can be tortured, for me non-existence is just all that's desirable, it's all I see as positive, the only relief for me could lie in never suffering again, I just want all to be forgotten for me, all I want is to erase this cruel, painful existence.

As in- to die? Would reality die for everything or, just me? Or, to live in a different reality? An unreality? Would I get to pick the parameters? Would everyone else come and live in my unreality?

Eventually, yes- I would choose to end my own reality. I wouldn't want to make that choice for everyone though. Neither would I pick a different reality for myself or anyone else. Although, a holiday there might be fun. Nothing permanent though. I would still need the right to choose. So would everyone else.

I'm not desperate enough yet. Suicide may not be selfish but taking everything else with me just doesn't feel right.

Would I make everything vanish with the off switch? Even though it would help end my own nightmare of an (un)reality, I don't think it's up to me. Humanity will make that happen eventually.

I most likely would, yeah... It's such a nice thought, with just one press of a button you cease to exist. You won't even know that anything happened. One moment you're here, the other moment you aren't. That feels really reassuring to me, compared to other methods where that is... kind of not the case.

The only real way I guess we could simulate this is by sitting next to a nuke and pressing the button, but that's slightly out of reach :ahhha:

Then, no. Would you?
Yes,zero life ==zero suffering

besides that's an inevitable outcome of sentient life on earth(extinction, that is) so anything else is just delaying the ineviatble(prolonging suffering)

For me, yes... for everyone else, no. You can't be pro-choice and take that decision away from others. Everyone should have their own button only for themselves, that's it. I'd push mine until it was worn out.

It's a shame @Darkover isn't still a member here. Your world perspective reminds me of theirs in many ways.

Extreme Pain is much worse than people know

I would press A button yes to escape this hell forever

A shotgun or rifle to the head imo is 99.9% close to that

In one instant I will cease to exist forever. it will be to me as if the universe or me never existed in the first place. All horrible things undone

Hmm, surprisingly a hard one. First instinct was yes, but I'd kinda like to experience the dying part? Not necessarily the immense pain and suffering, but more the feeling of I'm about to die and be free, kinda feeling? Can't even really put it into words.

off switch for myself or off switch for entire world?

I would turn myself off if it were possible to erase myself from memory of others as well.

yep, the billions/trillions of others that would come after us and suffer and other species that exist and suffer and will continue to do so, maybe even on other planets? I'd say yes, it sounds like an amazing bargain which is why I'd be skeptical of this in real life, in theory/fictional sure I'd press it.

If someone would be able to offer this in reality... it would not be an offer without a caveat. I know it's not the point of the thread but just for fun, the button would grant you your wish after you've lived every single living being that existed and will exist.

Sort of a deal with the devil stories where you try to outsmart the devil and in the end you end up in suffering beyond your imagination. You will see the death of every living being because you would be every living being, one by one. So it did grant you your wish, just not in the way you initially wanted. :smiling:edit: but even this is fictional because how would this make any sense, but it's a fun thought.

Is there a greater purpose to human life? If not then I don't know what the hesitation would really be about.

I would absolutely do it if it were that easy. Hell, I would not be here right now if it were that easy. I would have done it a long time ago.
