Move to texas lol not NYC. Southern states are usually way MORE lenient on gun laws.
Also I dont think you can immigrate to the U.S from the U.K... there's nothing going on there
that will allow you to get asylum for. There's also gun restrictions to non-citizens and people with a mental health record.

I don't know anything about how the process for obtaining a gun works for immigrants, but what I do know is that most large liberal cities (NYC, DC, practically anywhere in CA) make it much harder to obtain a gun than other cities. I'd say best bet is somewhere in Texas and mayyyybe Florida

Go to New Hampshire or the south because NY has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and I live in NJ which has even stricter laws.

I live in NJ too 👋. Small world.
I agree—gun laws here are super strict, and it's better to go to the southern states.

To answer OP's question, you should move to the Southern states like everyone else is saying,
But you should keep in mind that there are still regulations, even in the south.
First of all, you need to be a citizen or have a "green card" and you need to establish residency/"settle down" in a US state. They will also run background checks on you and if they see that you've been involuntarily committed to a mental hospital (even in another country) they won't allow it.
That's just federal law, but other states can add extra laws of their own.

If you're moving with the intention of CTB, just about anywhere is better than NYC. Gun laws for all states and cities are on the books and can be searched pretty easily.
