I'm wondering about this. I knew if I lived somewhere like Florida or Texas and could ctb with a gun, i'd already be long gone.

I read that white middle-aged men from Republican states have the highest suicide rate in the USI'm wondering about this. I knew if I lived somewhere like Florida or Texas and could ctb with a gun, i'd already be long gone.
Remember Republican States mostly are religious people.
According to Bible, CTB means going to hell & burning - for eternity.
Will they take chance when they believe hell awaits after CTB?
Its not because of religion. Besides the urge to ctb sometimes make you do it compulsively
religion doesnt allow lgbt and sex outside marriage and cheating and many other things but still it thrives.
If religion can stop people doing what they want. The police shouldnt even exist.
Religious people dont fully follow the rules especially if they really want something

thank you. interesting data.
Suicide Mortality by State:
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/suicide-mortality/suicide.htm
Lowest suicide rate: New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, California, Rhode Island, Illinois, Delaware, Connecticut
Yeah, but religion certainly plays a part in preventing people from killing themselves; if people in the poorer states were less religious, the suicide rates there would be even higher...thank you. interesting data.
republican states indeed have a higher rate of suicides.
may be lack of economic opportunities is the main driver?
true. makes sense.Yeah, but religion certainly plays a part in preventing people from killing themselves; if people in the poorer states were less religious, the suicide rates there would be even higher...
Suicide is extremely taboo in Floridian/Texan culture. Like someone else said people think it reflects a "weak mentality". I have an old memory as a little kid of my grandfather remarking something along the lines of "people who kill themselves are idiots" because of some hum dum about not realizing how precious life is but it was so many years ago I can't quote it verbatim. but that basically sums it up.I'm wondering about this. Yes human built to survive not to self-destructI think most of people don't REALLY want to ctb, even tho suicide should pass briefly on everyone's head at least once in their lives, nature is made to survive. Humanity feel motivated not only to survive wars but also for fighting it, can you imagine? We are a resistant, resilient, adaptable species.
We are not programmed to self destroy, having guns or not.
Some of us, of course, are bugged, but we are minority :)
Not every state. Some, including the cesspool known as California, require you to be 21 instead of 18 to purchase a gun.Ive never lived in a country where guns were easy access to average population
This is true. Usually happens due to unemployment, family issues/divorces, drugs, etc. Many times it's military veterans CTB'ing with past mental trauma playing a part, and because for a country that claims to honor our troops so highly, we do woefully little to actually support them.I read that white middle-aged men from Republican states have the highest suicide rate in the US
