https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-45117163. She's fortunate to be able to not have to go out in secret or not say goodbye to loved ones while she's still alive. Im like years overdue for this. I have not done everything to get help but it's because I can't access or afford what I would probably need. It's kind of like many of us feel forced to ctb because we know that we can't get help and our lives will never be high quality.

Dutch and Belgium doctor assisted suicide laws will be coming to the rest of the westernized world. It's just a matter of time.

Maybe I should hold out, but only if I knew exactly how long I would have to wait. I wonder what it costs?

Damn that's not helpful lol! It's doing it alone in secret for me. Should cost like $1000 tops.

It won't happen for the United States in this lifetime. I doubt it for the United Kingdom as well.

Canada is a possibility. They already have federal assisted dying for the terminally ill, there are some legal challenges underway for the non-terminally physically ill, and recently, a British Columbia depression sufferer died this way (how that happened, I don't know, because for that to have been legal as the law is currently written, it must take some serious legal gymnastics).

I don't have a gauge on any other Western countries.

N was $880 a bargain in comparison, not sure with Dignitas if that includes a cremation etc.

I watched a documentary about her - she was even allowed the change her mind - the first time she stopped it at the very last minute & gave life another chance for another couple of years - and she as still allowed to go back again, which I think was great - that they didn't prevent it because she changed her mind once. I'm so sorry you can't get the help you need because of funds & access. That's awful. Shouldn't be available to some and not to all.

Unfortunately this is what happens under socialism. Many people think we have a capitalist system but the truth is that we have fake capitalism or crony capitalism. There's a lot of policies that are actually very socialist. We do not have a free market system where the market and individual citizens decide how goods and services will be distributed. It's the government that decides who will access what and where the resources go for what. Central banking is a tenet of communism. We live under this as most countries do now. In many ways the US is more communist than China it's just more hidden. Socialism and Communism is similar in the end results. This is how u get massive inequality between rich and poor.

People always talk about Dignitas & Lifecircle because they are open to requests from people who do not live in the country. But for Swiss people there is another organisation called Exit and it's practically free or at least it's cheaper than A or B :)

From the article:

"Euthanasia is against the law in most countries, but in the Netherlands it is allowed if a doctor is satisfied a patient's suffering is "unbearable with no prospect of improvement" and if there is "no reasonable alternative in the patient's situation".

The Dutch actually get it!
That suffering can be "unbearable with no prospect of improvement", and possibly "no reasonable alternative in the patient's situation".

Tell me, why is it that only the Dutch get this?

It's still an awful standard. It's unacceptable. Why ought a doctor determine whether or not I ought to be euthanized based on his assessment of my life conditions and whether or not I have "no prospect of improvement." How is it his business to determine that I must live by that determinant standard? It's my life -- I ought to determine the criteria for "improvement" or whether or not I'm interested in those "prospects." It's not a doctor's business to determine that I must be locked into life according to his criteria. I should be able to find a doctor that will consent to euthanasia services regardless of whether or not he believes my life conditions are simply not horrible enough according to his standards to determine anything about my prospects for improvement.

And what is the timetable for his assessment? Does he have to assess me over another 2, 3, 4...5 year period in order to get a proper determination? So, I suffer another few years and he determines, "Sorry, you haven't suffered enough. No euthanasia for you."

None of this is reasonable.

How is this reasonable?
Well, it really is not reasonable, but it is better than all other countries, where it is illegal.

What I was trying to say is at least they understand that the suffering can be unbearable, and in many cases, no hope to fix it. Other countries will not even accept that.

The problem is it being abused. That's why it won't ever be allowed in the uk.
Granny in the nursing who is costing you £500 a week and the house she owns is worth £250k, maybe euthanise granny as she's not of sound mind so won't really know.

An example here why it won't ever be voted in favour.

How can you prove you are of sound mind and body. I can't with bipolar. I might want to die today but tomorrow I've changed my mind.
It's a huge fuck up!

Depends really. Agenda 21 is all about depopulation so if that initiative gathers steam we could see Euthanasia programs becoming the norm throughout the West. This is a rather Orwellian viewpoint but not outside the realm of possibility.

I was just about to post this exact video. I believe they refer to her as "Emily" - and I think she was the first public case in Netherlands of someone who want to ctb due to her chronic depression.

That presentation was originally posted in 2015. What ever happened to her?

EDIT: I saw the video to the end - she carried out assisted ctb with the help of her doctors.

I think she was a good example of if she wasn't allowed to be euthanised - she would eventully have do it via her own hands -in a non peaceful measure - she was even allowed ro
change her mind but still return a few years later - which I thought was good - she really did try to give life one more chance even though she was suffering so much .

Yes your correct her name is Emily. On the day of her euthanasia, the doctors arrived to give her a lethal injection and she told them no, she couldn't do it. 2 years later, she was given a second date for lethal injection and this time she went thru with it in August 2018. If you skip to the end of the documentary you will see
Yes @MeltingHeart I admired her so much for giving it one final shot

unfortunetly the original change of heart made everyone (pro-lifers) up in arms-like it was proof that even after all her assessments and being deemed eligible for it - in a rare case of mental as opposed to physical pain-they were like- oh it proves all those pscychological assessments arent enough etc etc-but she still did want to anyway-not too much longer after- so that proves them wrong - and why shouldnt people be allowed to delay it- even someone in physical pain might do that- just to see if they can endure life a little longer-which is after all built into our human dna- to try and live. If anything it proves the stuggle they go through on a daily basis-having to battle with that innate will to live in spite of suffering so much.

Totally agree. To me, she showed tremendous courage, willing to give life another shot because she had felt okay in the 2 weeks coming up to it. But obviously things went bad again and she knew it was time. To me, pro lifers should take relief from that. They think we are all murder crazy people. People don't want to actually die!!! If someone waved a wand and cured all the depression, illness and everything else in the world of course majority wouldn't want to die. People just cant carry on living like this!! Without hope or light at the end of the tunnel. That's my opinion of it anyways. Apologies for the rant!

Yeah, right. There are billions of people. This stuff is such horseshit. And we can barely get euthanasia as it is. These conspiracies are just stupid.

I wish they had suicide booths like in Futurama. Put in a quarter and choose the way you'd like to die. I'd probably choose a gas that would just knock me out and put me permanently to sleep. Easy, quiet, peaceful
I shouldn't need to have a doctor's permission, or anyone else's, to end my own life. If I had been given a choice, I don't believe I would've chosen to come here, despite what certain religions or spiritual beliefs claim. Therefore, since I didn't choose to come here of my own free will, I feel like I should be allowed to leave here anytime I want to of my own free will.
No one has a right to force anyone else to live a life of suffering & pain, or even a life that doesn't contain suffering & pain.

Assisted suicide laws would be great but I honestly and wholeheartedly think they should not be for mentally ill people. But as other people have said, euthanasia laws are only a matter of time, so the ones here with chronic pain need not worry for that long.
