I wanted to go to the hospital, but I didn't have a ride. I was hoping the police would give me one, but I've gone to this exact police station twice before, saying I'm in crisis, and they didn't do anything. I thought I had to do something extreme to get help, but it didn't work.

No. I was scared that they were going to shoot me. All I wanted to do was go to the hospital. Actually, I cut myself by accident. I was digging for my key in my pocket, but the knife (a large kitchen knife) was in the same pocket as my key. This was before I got to the station. I was planning on cutting myself in front of the police, but nobody was there--except for the receptionist. Since I already did it by accident and was bleeding pretty good, I decided to stop and wait for the officers to get back.

I told the receptionist that I was going to go home and hurt myself if I didn't get help, but I don't know if she relayed all of that to the officers.

This is pure bs, a person carrying a knife in the open normally invokes a armed police response or at the very least multiple police riot response(I know this from when I was reported many many years ago), if the armed police turned up which you imply they did as you said you were scared they were going to shoot you then due to bodycams they have a level of service to follow from their own perspective in order to not get fired. There is no way in any way, shape or form armed police turned up just to say go home, if anything I would say the only cry for help is this post.

I did tell them that I wanted to go to the hospital, but because I wasn't going to drop the knife, they weren't going to take me. I would've called 988, like I've done in the past, but I don't have a phone.

I told the receptionist that I had a knife. I showed the receptionist that I had a knife. I did so, so she could tell the officers that I had a weapon because I didn't want to surprise them with a weapon, proceeding to get shot.

I said no. Eventually, they told me to go home. I guarantee they weren't expecting me to go home. That's why they told me to go home. Y'know? I feel like they thought I would give up, but I felt humiliated, so I went home.
Granted, as I was walking back home, they got in the car and followed me for a bit. They asked me where I live. I felt spiteful, so I responded with 'Around.' They asked 'Are you really going to go home?' I said yes, but I still had the knife in my hand, so they asked if I could at least put the knife in my pocket. I did and they drove off.

I have been tackled and arrested before, but that was after I tried to jump from a building (and I had no weapon).

I believe over here it probably would have went a bit different (I would HOPE so).
Police take knife from you after some shouting, detained and brought to hospital if they have seen a wound or believe there is a mental health issue.

When the cops arrived at my door, they said something to the fact: "well at least we do not have to clean a mess up"!

Then they had hugs smiles on their faces and considered me nothing more than trash with a mental problem.

I was so shocked at their treatment towards me, and I am even more shocked at the callous and completely unhuman response to you.

I'd try asking first. If they're too busy to drive you, ask if you can use the phone to call the hospital, or if they can call for you. Forget the knife.

In my experience, in other states, the police are quick to respond and ready to help--especially if you're suicidal. In the state that I'm living in, back in December, I called the police on my mom because she was beating my sister. My mom is overweight and in her 40s. My sister was underweight and 15. My mom left my sister bleeding, but the police didn't do anything because they said the fighting was mutual. Now, it's the middle of May and my sister still has scars.

It seems that most mental healthcare systems are either nonexistent or overprotective. They either don't give a fuck about anything or they imprison you in some institution the first chance they get.

WOW! The state here in the U.S. where I live would NOT tolerate your mom's behavior towards your younger sister for 1 second. Your sister would go to Child Services and your mom to jail in a split second, cops in my state ARE REALLY pro-active and take no B.S. PERIOD EVER.

Back in March 2015, during my 2nd attempt, the cops came and did not give any thought to insurance at all. I went to the hospital no matter what. At the hospital, if I did not have insurance because of being in a psychic ward, the state works with a person.

In my suburb back in March 2015 we did not have a special squad to handle crisis mode situations but now the regular cops do not show up but a special team that is beyond trained in handling mental health and family crisis.

I literally just said police don't give a fuck. They see people who are suicidal or bothered as weak and stupid. If this was in America, you are lucky they didn't shoot you.

You are lucky they didn't take your name and information to harass you and lock you up. Do not go to the police for help. I really hope you're OK and your arm heals well. It's better to go to a hospital than the police. They often lack empathy.
