Your mom may not know what is a helpful way of responding as the concept of suicide is incomprehensible/foreign to her. She also may be afraid that she is going to say the wrong thing to you and upset you. Despite her silence, she is probably extremely concerned and is thinking about you all the time.

Who gave you that response? Your mom, or someone at the facility?

If it was your mom, then even though it's a very dismissive thing to say (probably among the worst things to respond with, actually), I'd try not to read too much into it. As @Grief said, she may just have no idea how to handle suicidality in her child. It sounds like she dropped everything she was doing to drive you an hour away where she hopes you can get help, and this is what I would try to focus on.

If it was a medical professional who said that......... then.... Yikes.

Yeah... I'm fucking done for. It may take a couple days to gain the courage but I can't keep up. Schizophrenia and a lack of understanding and compassion will be the death of me. I just got out of treatment today and I came home to this shit.

That's what I was thinking, too.
I'm really glad you reached out and are seeking treatment. Try to get whatever you can out of it and advocate for yourself if you don't think the therapy is going to work for you. Thanks for sharing this.

As for your mom, maybe talk to the doctors about that, too. Maybe they can be a bridge between the two of you and help start a dialogue.
