I THINK I have adhd and/or bipolar, but I have no (financial) means to go to a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis, because I know something is really wrong w me, I just can't figure out what it is.

I guess you are somewhere where you have to have health insurance? :-( Are there any charities that offer consultation with a psychiatrist?

I had undiagnosed bipolar for years, the ups and downs were hard to manage. I just got used to depression, depression, depression, then oh boy I'm as high as a kite, routine. I almost thought it was normal and I just wasn't good at staying "happy".

The worst was starting to feel the depression coming back after taking on so many obligations (for want of a better word) while I was in the high phase :-/

Is this similar to what you experience?

I have a similar feeling. I've had different diagnoses over the years, sometimes they probably were accurate and sometimes not. Yet to find "the diagnosis" for me.

Does having a diagnosis help though? Some people start living their diagnosis.

I think perhaps some people over identify with a diagnosis for a while. I think it's part of adjusting to the knowledge. I think if you genuinely have a condition that fits a given diagnosis then the truth is you've been living that diagnosis already, you just didn't have a name for it.

Having a diagnosis that fit, lead to treatment that worked. Having a different diagnosis (without my knowledge, that so obviously didn't fit my symptoms or experience) lead to treatments that really made me far worse.

One of the things that often can be a problem when dealing with bipolar is prescribing people SSRIs. They really mess me up. And what do doctors always reach for when people have depression? As you've probably guessed SSRIs such as Prozac, Sertraline, Citalopram et al.

This is why I feel if you are concerned you may have bipolar, it's vital that you get a diagnosis as the wrong meds can be disastrous.

Two years ago, I had, against my better judgement, started taking SSRIs again on the provision that I could discontinue them should I start to have problems. For reasons I won't bore you with, I ended up under the care of a new psychiatrist who wouldn't listen to me when I started to say the SSRIs might be making me worse. But like a good boy I kept taking them resulting in the worst symptoms I've had in decades.

For this reason, I think diagnosis is definitely worth getting. If nothing else, it may help others avoid what I went through.

Don't go to a psychiatrist....just buy lithium ororate and take a high dose it treats both bipolar and ADHD. Go to a counselor to talk or go to a local pastor or priest they talked to hundreds of people and are very experienced in life problems. You can always call some hotline if you have psychological problems. Psychologists are good but they are expensive.

Before you go to a psychiatrist listen to peter breggin on youtube
Psychiatrist these days are drug pushers for the pharmaceutical industry and could absolutely ruin your life...even if you go there voluntarily they can force involuntary psychiatry on you and can force as many medications as they like. They can even get a CTO which they can renew as many times as they see fit. In my experience prison is safer than a psychiatrist office

Most diagnosis are bullshit..there are no brainscans or proof that these conditions are real brain diseases. These are psuedoscientific phenomenon thought up by some people who wrote DSM5. Even schizophrenics who were thought to have too much dopamine and now proven to dopamine deficient in many brain parts...psychiatry is flawed

SSRI are not effective in general ..st johnswort is proven just to be as effective as SSRI. The only anti-depressant which did anything for me personally was duloxetine which is among the strongest on the market. But you don't need them unless you are really depressed or are having cognitive issues

Things you can do right now is
Swimming and kundalini yoga
Meditating
Sungazing late afternoon and listening to mp3 player
Raw food diet
Taking walks listening to auiobooks...maybe joe rogan podcast
Read books by B.R Taylor they're really good
Go celibate no masturbation
Take a look into topics like reincarnarion..spirituality in general
David deanglo also got good material especially his advanced and inner game series

Occupy yourself with things that are good for you and things you need to do

I would advise you be careful taking supplements to treat a condition you have not verified having. You also have to verify allergies, interactions with other medications you may be taking, toxicity levels and side effects of what you are taking along with determining the proper dosage which may needed. It can get complicated. Always do your own research.

As already mentioned, check all government programs, shelters, churches, colleges or any other agencies near you to see if there is any assistance available.

Got diagnosed with psychotic spectrum disorder (bipolar and schizoaffective are part of it). Occasional bouts of mania throughout my life. With the right supplements and lifestyle most so called mental diseases can be managed. Lithium ororate works good on bipolar and schizoaffective but you have to take higher dosages, it does have less side effects than lithium given by psychiatrists

Lithium imho is legit medication in not too high dosages

Probably best though to get a diagnosis first. If you have experienced psychosis (I have) you will know just how screwed up your perceptions can be. If OP experiences this then there's very little a pastor is going to do beyond calling the authorities.

I take lithium orotate too and i would say on balance I feel a bit more stable. However, going beyond the recommended dose is probably not a good idea. I take it on top of my prescription meds. Look, I'm not a big fan of psychiatrists after my experiences recently. I think where you have positions of authority it's going to attract malignant narcissists who are more interested in massaging their egos than helping people. But that being said, not all are that way.

If your regime works for you thats great. But if OP genuinely has reason to believe they have bipolar, I think they should try to see someone qualified first. If they find a psychiatrist to be abusive and controlling then try to get another one. But hopefully the first they see will do right by them.

In my case, I highly doubt that taking a super dose of lithium orotate would prevent the psychosis getting bad again. I still get the odd mild hallucinations, though they dont bother me like they used to. I think my meds are doing something to control my condition, just sadly not as well as they used to. Going without is not a risk I'm willing to take or advise others to.

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! I wish I knew for certain tho what was wrong with me because I don't wanna self diagnose
