  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Not through violence of course. But if I were asked, I would start a political party called the Anti-Human Party and suggest a plan to phase out humanity gracefully:

Plank 1: Antinatalism (everyone should stop procreating, so access to contraception should be made free and easier and childfree lifestyles incentivized)

Plank 2: The elderly will freak out because they will "have nobody to take care of them" (which has been a main reason to procreate for millennia thus perpetuating a non-sense humanity for no reason). So here there will be two options. One, euthanasia should be made easy and available to the elderly at least. This may sound cruel but many tribes have already practised euthanasia of the infirm elderly for millennia. If it's too cruel then option two is to develop AI and robot nurses to take care of the last elderly on earth.

Plank 3: Structure the economy based on need and ability, not profit. Since there will be an actual end goal, it will be easier to calculate the utilization of ressources. There won't even be much of a need to switch to renewable energy. But everything during the phasing out should be made as easy and comfortable as possible and people will notice that there actually is no point in "saving the economy" and "provide a future" etc. etc.

What are your thoughts?

Earth First! It was a radical environmental org founded in 1980. I knew some of those folks circa 1990. Don't know if they are still around but I sure hope so.

Funnily enough, structuring society around needs and ability may do more to incentivize people to have kids rather than the opposite. Part of why fewer people are having kids today isn't necessarily because people don't want kids, but rather it's because of the current late-stage capitalist hellscape making having kids unappealing. If I can barely take care of myself financially, then how am I supposed to take care of a kid? By providing people with more resources to allow them to better meet their needs, it potentially may lead to some deciding to have kids in turn since they may now feel as though they will be able to better provide for them.

Beyond that, what you are suggesting likely wouldn't pan out well irl, since it's a plan that is way too simplistic.

I'd vote for you but, I don't expect your ideas would be widely popular. Lots of people really want children. Not just to have helpers in old age too. Many parents insist they won't become a burden. I think some genuinely have this idea that they want to share their love of life. A friend of mine seemed to be attracted to the idea of replicating a part of their partner- in case they died before them. Plus, some just want to experience that love. I don't think robots could fill that gap.

Seeing as people likely won't willingly comply, that would mean enforcing it I guess. Neutering the species. I doubt people would be ok with that. Neither would some religions- Islam and Catholicism jump to mind- which doesn't even support the use of contraception.

Plus, all the most powerful, corporate leaders out there- the likes of Musk- still require minions to sell their products to and populate Mars I suppose.

I agree though. I'd love for the human race to go voluntarily extinct. Give all the other creatures a break.

I certainly believe anyone who emphatically doesn't wish to be here should be allowed a quick painless exit.
I believe that life will become so awful for so many (even worse than it is now) that it may even become law eventually. The authorities musts be annoyed at the amount of people inconveniencing the public and impacting the economy by killing themselves on railway lines etc

This has been questioned, because birthrates in poor countries are still higher. The richer a society gets, the fewer children they have for some odd reason. This even happens to third world migrants who relocate to the first world countries, debunking the anti-immigrant myth that third worlders will "outbreed" westerners.

But even the countries with currently high birthrates are still seeing drops in birthrates. The whole world is already in a decline in population growth for some reason.

It's just a sketch

Yeah, my proposal is not going to happen. It's very unpopular.

We are all going to go extinct anyway, so why not make it happen as peacefully as possible with the technology and knowledge we have. Because nature making us extinct is not going to be pleasant.
