These organizations are a joke. I fulfill all of their requirements. For example, Exit says on their homepage that euthanasia is granted to people that
- have a sense of judgement, this means they understand the implications of their actions
- have tried all alternatives to suicide and don't act on impulse
- have a consistent wish to die
- aren't influenced by others in their decision to die
- do the final act by themselves, that means the patient has to drink the Nembutal themselves (passive euthanasia)
These are requirements most of the members in this forum would pass, even young people. And you know what they say on the next paragraph? They have a "responsibility" and therefore only assist you if you
- are in constant severe pain
- have a severe disability
- have a hopeless prognosis
So this basically means you can't die with any of these organizations unless you're old or terminally ill. Mental illness aren't recognized anyway. I've read a case a couple of years ago, it was in the news, where they even dismissed someone with ALS that was in a wheelchair 24/7 and barely could move anymore. That person said there is no dignity in life anymore in such a state and I totally agree. I also like how these organizations totally dismiss the autonomy we have over our own lives. Like, freedom to die, that's not a thing apparently in any European country. I also realized that assisted suicide with these organizations is actually really expensive. If I simply order N I'll pay less and have a peaceful death anyway. It's up to a couple of thousand US dollars compared to the couple of hundred bucks for N from Mexico.
So yeah, forget that. Unless you're like 70 years old, suffer from a cancer diagnosis in a late stage or any similar diseases, you can't count on them. I even sent them an email a couple of weeks ago, asking about my personal right to leave this planet whenever I desire, of course I didn't get an answer because they can't justify their authoritarian stance at all.
We have the legal foundation for a much more liberal euthanasia process but that's not the practice. These people simply don't want to deal with controversial cases.
Edit: I just read, Dignitas has the exact same requirements. You must either be diagnosed with an incurable disease, severe disability or suffer from extreme pain.
