I would assume dignitas has certain qualifications.

i don't think Dignitas take everybody. You have to have a reason like terminal/painful disease to be accepted? Like if you're 18 -22, you just can't show up and expect them to accept you

Adding to the reasons that have already been said, some people don't want to deal with telling their relatives and friends.

These organizations are a joke. I fulfill all of their requirements. For example, Exit says on their homepage that euthanasia is granted to people that

- have a sense of judgement, this means they understand the implications of their actions
- have tried all alternatives to suicide and don't act on impulse
- have a consistent wish to die
- aren't influenced by others in their decision to die
- do the final act by themselves, that means the patient has to drink the Nembutal themselves (passive euthanasia)

These are requirements most of the members in this forum would pass, even young people. And you know what they say on the next paragraph? They have a "responsibility" and therefore only assist you if you

- are in constant severe pain
- have a severe disability
- have a hopeless prognosis

So this basically means you can't die with any of these organizations unless you're old or terminally ill. Mental illness aren't recognized anyway. I've read a case a couple of years ago, it was in the news, where they even dismissed someone with ALS that was in a wheelchair 24/7 and barely could move anymore. That person said there is no dignity in life anymore in such a state and I totally agree. I also like how these organizations totally dismiss the autonomy we have over our own lives. Like, freedom to die, that's not a thing apparently in any European country. I also realized that assisted suicide with these organizations is actually really expensive. If I simply order N I'll pay less and have a peaceful death anyway. It's up to a couple of thousand US dollars compared to the couple of hundred bucks for N from Mexico.

So yeah, forget that. Unless you're like 70 years old, suffer from a cancer diagnosis in a late stage or any similar diseases, you can't count on them. I even sent them an email a couple of weeks ago, asking about my personal right to leave this planet whenever I desire, of course I didn't get an answer because they can't justify their authoritarian stance at all.

We have the legal foundation for a much more liberal euthanasia process but that's not the practice. These people simply don't want to deal with controversial cases.
Edit: I just read, Dignitas has the exact same requirements. You must either be diagnosed with an incurable disease, severe disability or suffer from extreme pain.

David goodall was crowd funding and needed 25k for dignitus but i assume that was also for passage from Australia. Still you would think somebody who was a university level teacher and scientist for 70 years would have had the money, but these nursing homes will suck you dry for all your worth, and i believe he was forced into one of these facilities by the aussie govt.

I am a member of the euthanasia organization Exit in Switzerland. they only help very few people who are mentally ill. from 200 inquiries they help about 1 person per year. It is not easy at all because you just live in Switzerland. You need to have a palleative diagnosis or a serious accident. I pay 70 francs a year to be a member. if you're a member for over three years, you do not have to pay anything.

You always have to pay at Dignitas. this organization does not have a good reputation by us in CH. there went often something wrong.

It's the same in many other countries with liberal euthanasia policies like Belgium and the Netherlands too, they basically only go along with it if you're chronically ill or terminal. Not always though. There are a handful of cases each year where some younger people who may be comparatively functional have their requests granted, but they're fairly few and far between. It's certainly not this ctb free for all that I often notice is assumed on SS.

Hell even if you lived in France or the UK your lucky if Dignitas would take you. I live across the pond some 5000 miles away. London to Zurich is around 500 miles. To me, the process would be too damn stressful. Not only for me, but for my aunt since we both live in the USA. We could have easily afforded it (10K USD) but most people couldn't.
