  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

Bullies attack those who they see as weak, those who they see as not agreeing or behaving with them and those whom they feel can be forced to do their bidding.

I see Kelli@fixthe26 as a bully. Plain and simple. Her behavior towards the members of this site, toward people from years ago and her behavior to me engaging her on her Twitter feed as the definition of bullying.

I have never been bullied on this site but I was attacked by multiple people on her feed.

Here are some statistics on bullying and the effects on people with depression and suicidal ideation from 2021.

SUICIDE STATISTICS:

  1. Suicide remains among the leading causes of death of young adults In most cases, the young people die from hanging, however firearms are the second leading cause
  2. Suicide rates among 10 to 14-year-olds have grown more than 50 percent over the last three decades. (The American Association of Suicidology, AAS)
  3. A new review (2020) of studies from 13 countries found signs of an apparent connection between bullying, being bullied, and suicide. (Yale School of Medicine)
  4. Suicide rates among children between the ages of 10 & 14 are very low, but are "increasing." (Ann Haas, Director of the Suicide Prevention Project at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention)
  5. The suicide rate among young male adults in Massachusetts rose 28 percent in 2019. However, that does not reflect deaths among teenagers and students. (Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health, in a report released April 8, 2019)
  6. 56% of students have personally witnessed some type of bullying.
  7. Among those adults who attempt suicide, those who report being bullied are 2.5 more likely to carry out the attempt than those who report that they are not the victims of bullying.

I never try to turn correlations into causation. But we can say that a large group of suicidal people who are scared and want to freely share their fears and concerns are at a great risk of further self harm if someone repeatedly labels them a "death cult" or "incels" or are engaged in "recruiting". The active population of chronic suicidal individuals on here that are not responding to conventional therapy or medication and who are enormous in number are being bullied for a crusade.

Bullies are weak and insecure. Never in my life have i seen a bully being able to bully without their friends. They would never bully anyone if they didn't have a 'gang'. I can't understand what so funny about going to the same people everyday and just being mean to them. Fuck bullies. The world is already bad enough, they don't have to make it even worse.

Not necessarily.

I've seen it.
Cool. I have never seen a bully without a friend group. I have seen them bully alone but they are always a member of some kind of gang. Atleast what i have seen. And maybe not every bully is insecure but you gotta be pretty goddamn fucked in the head if you go up to the same people every day and just being mean to them.

You're so naive. The victim of the bullying is the one who's more likely to be without a friend group, not the other way.

I read an interesting piece a while back that basically advocated for the dissolution of schools, precisely because the psychological impact is so severe that it outweighs the benefits. It wouldn't do away with education but the school structure itself

Honestly, at least for elementary I think school is awful. Like, yeah! Let's take all these kids from all kinds of backgrounds and all manner of parenting and put them together when they are most susceptible to influence and have no filter. What. Could. Possible! Go fucking wrong. It sounds insane on paper and then they hire underpaid and overworked teachers to supervise them it's a shitshow everywhere it's just a gladiator pit from a young age

A day in the life

The internet has played a big role with bullying. There was a time where kids could escape their problems after school for a little bit, until they had to go back to school the next day and face bullies. Now with cyberbullying being common, it's become more difficult for kids to avoid their bullies. The internet actually enables people to become less empathetic and more apathetic. The reason why is when you are insulting somebody on the web, it's just a random profile/avatar to you. At least in real life, you have to observe how you affected the other person. Obviously some people get off by watching their victims show pain, but a lot of people who don't actually have the nerve to bully in real life resort to the internet. And of course, you're "safe" behind a computer screen, so you can say whatever the fuck you want with very little to no repercussions. Anyway, this is just one of many pieces of the problem regarding bullying in society...

Bullies can be found everywhere. They go by many names. Predators, abusers, manipulators, assholes. They deceive and cause immense harm. Even this place is not from them. No place that is populated by humans is. It makes me grow more and more weary everyday.

It's scary however this is true. The bullied are traumatized by their predator, abuser, manipulator. I think if I wasn't around this one bully I wouldn't have been influenced or manipulated into many of the horrible mistakes that further ruined my self esteem and mental health
