I think a lot of people already know this, but it's incredible how toxic the Internet is becoming/has become.
Just now I stood up for myself in a Discord server where somehow the mods and other favoured people were allowed to insult me, but I wasn't allowed to say anything in my defense. Probably the most disturbing part is how one of them had the guts to directly and without any filters say "well he did [this thing that makes people in the server give him special treatment]". Like, they didn't even try to hide it. Like, it's totally normal, right? Like "I can't believe you're asking this or trying to stand up for something like this". She even said that "there are times you should not say anything". And let's not talk about the insults like "you're being a little %#%, you're a ball of %$#"%" and nasty stuff like that, which I never said. There were even bolded insults (you're so [insert nasty insult] like this), just to leave it clear and more engraved. Some of them were even people that I had friendly exchanges with, but somehow at that point were completely turned into people who would ferociously and without question defend their own elitism.
They would even go as far as to say "you should know better, you should be as polite and generous as [favoured person], how can you be so ungrateful for their generosity?", like I was the one to blame when they actually started it (blame shifting). Obviously, they were quite far from having those qualities, and hardly an example to learn from.
Truth be told, tech in general seems to be like this. Though this is the only tech server I've been where it got *this* disturbing. You have to use *their* tools and do things the way *they* want to, or otherwise, they'll bully you, plain ignore you, say they're "so sick of you" and other horrible stuff like that. It was even tech niche, but apparently not even those places are saved from Internet toxicity. If you do as you're told, they will treat you nicely, that's how a lot of people have good opinions of them. But do the opposite, and they'll unleash hell on you. You're absolutely not allowed to be yourself, nor share any tool or way of doing things that goes against their beliefs. Effectively a cult.
It's really wild these days. And I know, because I've been surfing for quite long. I know it wasn't this way 10 or even 20 years ago. Sure, there were conflicts... but it was rare for them to escalate this bad and so quickly. Usually, people were open to clear any potential misunderstandings. But not now. Now everyone wants to defend their own position, and will not hesitate to start insulting out of nowhere and treat you like you're not even a person.
It's also not just Discord. It's everywhere. There's hardly any escape.
It's very sad... and I think I really gotta take a break of these things. I have many hobbies that I enjoy online and things that I want to learn but it's getting impossible. I can do so much on my own, but at some point I also want to learn with other people. To exchange experiencies, discoveries. All of that is... lost.
And it adds to why I don't want to keep living. Suffering will always exist, people will always be selfish at some point... but this is just on a whole other level. At this point, I prefer to suffer in silence, in the loneliness of my own room, and just wait there until my time comes.
