Hello people of the world, I have just come to a very awful realization.

I have spent roughly the last 24 hours browsing various subreddits such as r/fightporn, r/crazyvideos, r/publicfreakout, and basically whatever else came up while scrolling videos. Most of these videos are brutal fights that oftentimes leave one person unresponsive on the ground, sometimes twitching. And almost nobody ever tries to intervene either. They just watch and cheer.

What I want to know from you is, is this a "normal" thing in your life? Did you ever take part of, or witness frequently this kind of stuff going on. I want to hear from young people and old people.

The reason I want to know is because this to me is absolutely crazy behavior. I've never fought with people this way. I've maybe seen 2 actual fights in my life, and they didn't end up the way most of these fights do. Have I been missing something? I grew up sheltered I guess, but if this is what the real world is or what the future holds, then it only further solidifies my desire to ctb. I don't want to live like this. I wasn't conditioned to live like this, and I'll probably just get violently murdered anyway, so may as well go out on my terms.

Rome had it's gladiators. We have fight club or UFC or something like it. A percentage of the population likes this.

Not at all. At least, not to the extent that you see in those subs.

I have experienced domestic violence, though.

Even though the world is a harsh place, I don't think you should measure reality by the metric of what you see in those videos.

When all you do is consume violent content, it's easy to assume that that is all there is.

On a daily basis, there is a really low probability of actually encountering a scenario like the ones you see in those subs.

Nah, man. It's honestly getting bad though here. I've been threatened so many times within the past few years (which seems like too much for adults anyway) mostly over political shit. Just people trying to provoke me into fighting, which usually I just play them off as psycho, because well it's really just kind of psychotic behavior. A few weeks ago I was walking home from work and came across a group of people sitting outside of a bar drinking and one girl said hi to me, then I said hi back and kept waking and all of the sudden she starts calling me a bitch which I just ignored. But idk man. Watching all these videos it just made me think for the first time in my life that growing up sheltered and not exposed to this maybe has brainwashed me and made me weak and oblivious to what the world is actually like.

I am a bit relieved to know that it's not super common for you. Perhaps I am just being paranoid. I definitely feel as though the world may end tomorrow.

I've never been personally involved in a situation like this, but have seen a situations almost end up that way. I grew up around knuckleheads and gang members.

I've seen rival gangs fighting when I was younger in highschool, a lot of the guys were all older than me and some no longer even in highschool but showed up. It was a large fight but one group largely outnumbered the other group. I saw a guy getting his head stomped on. Don't know what happened to him cause I had to get the hell out of there. It was gruesome but there was nothing I could do or risk me being in the same situation as him.

I've seen people get jumped when I was a lot younger and use to go downtown to bars and clubs to dance and drink after I turned 21.

I've personally known people who some are and aren't alive anymore due to this lifestyle, who were just the way you speak of.

I've seen people indiscriminately shoot into crowds at parties over small petty things.

Only thing I can say is, that now days people have more and more found many ways to dehumanize and devalue human lives of others through such hatred or desensitization, that people just don't care.

I have also watched a lot of the videos that you speak about, or just lots of videos about random violent acts, and the world is definitely getting worse. Just reading things like reddit or other online forums as people speak about these types of things or hurting other people, with such ease. If you don't go looking for this stuff or don't watch much news you won't know much about it I guess, but it is all over out there and getting much worse overall.

Damn bro, I'm sorry you have had to witness all that. You are one hundred percent right about the fact that you don't see this stuff if you don't look for it or watch the news. I almost never watch the news. I was aware of the 2020 riots and the insurrection and the real major stuff, but seeing this stuff on Reddit now shows so much more detail, that no news station would broadcast. And taking it all in at once has totally blown my mind.

How are you planning to deal with this in the future? I don't know if I'd be strong enough myself to fight through this crap

I suppose those of us who grew up in like "normal" middle-class families know about and keep away from certain areas where this kind of thing happens regularly. My city also has such areas. But there are certainly people who come from difficult backgrounds where this kinda thing is a daily routine.

At my work there was a guy who grew up in a poor neighbourhood and he had plenty of stories like this. His own childhood friend was beaten to death on the street over some trivial argument. He got a call at night from his dying friend asking him to save him but it was apparently too late.

In my own street there was a guy who got hacked to death with machetes but it has happened only once in my lifetime. I was sleeping inside but my parents said they witnessed it.

What can you say, humans are disgusting creatures.

People don't understand how much suffering there is out there, and it sort of pisses me off. It doesn't bother you that you've probably seen less than one hundred of these types of videos, and yet (I can assure you) there are millions of these videos out there? And that's just what's recorded! It's absurd that so many people don't fucking realise that the number of people suffering out there is exponentially more than they probably think. I live in a country with really high crime rates, so every day on the news there's some atrocious accident - the other day I heard that someone raped a son in front of his mother, then also raped the mother. The worst things you could ever imagine happens daily somewhere. I've personally seen three cadavers when I was growing up, and the amount of abuse and sexual assault I've seen or heard of personally is fucking overwhelming, too. But hey, because I don't fucking see it, and because I'm fucking oblivious to everything, humanity is amazing, right? Life is fucking great, isn't it? I'm sick of this shit man. Life was a cosmic error, but humanity is the greater mistake.

There are so many horrible things that exist in this world, and many people do terrible things to others. The world is filled with suffering and that is a fact. If you go looking on the internet you will likely read about many of these things. Just the fact that such cruelty exists is enough to make me want to leave.

I have never seen what you are posting about, and of course if someone does not research these things in the first place then they can remain ignorant to them. One of the most awful things about living is that there is no limit as to how bad things can get, and how much we can suffer. I would have preferred to never exist at all, to never know about this world.
