And God decreed, “Coronavirus spread forth!”

My severe ocd is why I can't work and it leaves me living in a situation that resembles being under house arrest. It's been close to a decade of this.

I'm considering doing a psychologically painful form of therapy (Exposure and Response Prevention) to treat it, but I realize i'll still have my Avoidant Personality Disorder, C-PTSD, anhedonia, anxiety, and depression making life hell.

I don't see the point of bothering to combat the ocd since it won't change much. I hate that this is my life. I truly wish I died while being abused as a child. I could've been spared all of this

Just to be clear, you're wanting to pass on ERP because you think it's a waste due to your remaining untreated conditions?

By relieving the symptoms of one condition, it could give space for you to feel differently about your other conditions. It lowers the totality of your suffering which could cause your point of view to shift.

Have you spoken to a therapist and tried medications? Medical Marijuana? Do you want to get help?

You have been suffering for a really long time and it is really unfortunate that you mother was not able to give you the nurturing that you needed while you were growing up. You are not to blame for her condition or for the horrible things that she has done to you.

Unfortunately in psychiatry, professionals seem to focus on tackling the symptoms that appear on surface rather than addressing the core conditions and equipping their patients with the tools to problem solve and tolerate the stressors of life. Depression, anxiety and dysphoria are more often than not, accessories to an underlying personality disorder (for those who have a personality disorder) rather than stand alone conditions to be treated in isolation. Years can be spent haphazardly treating these conditions all pêle-mêle when it would be much more constructive to deal with the core personality disorder.

Of course this disorganized approach has more to do with how mental health treatment is delivered in many systems around the world rather than it being the result of a treating physician's incompetence. If you have the means, I would suggest talking to your doctor about seeking treatment for the Avoidant Personality Disorder and C-PTSD. While C-PTSD is not classified as a personality disorder per se, it does share a lot of symptoms with Borderline Personality Disorder and you could benefit from some of the skills offered by therapies like DBT (ex: distress tolerance and emotional regulation).

This is just something to consider. Regardless of how you decide to go forward, I wish you all the best.

I've been to therapy with various therapists for over 20 years. I've been on countless meds since I was a teen. All a waste.

Yes, meds work great if you are already healed otherwise they're rubbish beyond belief

You just said what I've been trying and failing to articulate in reply to this post.
