I just fucking hate doctors.

Especially the old ones who still think mental illness is some kind of made-up bullshit.
For months, I worked with my doctor and psychiatrist to find the right meds, something that would at least help me get out of bed, go outside, and function like a half-decent human being.
They were amazing. Young, sharp, and actually gave a damn. They understood what was going on and genuinely tried to help.

But I had to move to another city...
So I go to this new family doctor, and of course, it's some old, clueless cunt who doesn't even know half the meds I've been prescribed. Or worse, claims they're for "other conditions" and I don't actually need them.
I didn't come in for a debate. I just fucking wanted to renew the damn prescriptions.
Instead, this arrogant idiot just canceled everything and tells me to "take fluoxetine."
Which has no effect on me.

Oh, and the cherry on top?
"Try meditation and think positively."
Fuck off. Just. Fuck. Off.

Yeah, right. After over decades of being mentally broken, unable to even get out of bed, having panic attacks just at the thought of leaving my flat, having tremors when interacting with people, to the point where I forget how to walk or how to talk and not even being able to sleep well.
Apparently all I need is some breathing exercises and to "think positively."
Sure, that'll fix everything. Fucking brilliant.

Worthless, brain-dead old quacks, spewing garbage they memorized from their outdated, shit-filled psychology textbooks...

And you know what? I can only try to change my family doctor in 3 month!

Fucking hell, and all this is happening while I'm busting my ass trying to find a damn job, dragging myself to interviews, just to scrape by and not end up on the fucking street.

I'm fucking done dealing with idiots. I've had it with the constant stream of useless assholes polluting my life.

And without my meds? I'm just irreversibly fucked.

Fuck everything. I'm fucking done.

Never made any sense to me how people are supposed to work so they can treat health issues that are preventing them from working

Exactly. The entire system is a complete failure.

At least I managed to stock up on some medicine beforehand. Not much, but it's at least something.
As if I could feel it coming...
We'll see how it turns out.

I cried reading this because 1st off you should have never ever been treated that way, just horrible period.

2nd ties into the 1st aspect, that some doctors think that just because they put on a white coat that they know it all and can be so condescending towards others. That is why I have not been able to find a new mental health doctor, do this, do that, shut up, no thank you. Have been like you, different town and such and new doctor and guess what? they want to switch everything around when it works ok, idiots!

If I cannot be part of the solution, then bye!

Wishing you lots of hugs, caring thoughts and hopefully you can find a place/doctor that not only has a brain BUT empathy.

Yes, empathy is rare, unfortunately.

Thank you for your kind words.
I'm sorry you had to go through something similar and couldn't find a genuine mental health professional who knows what they're doing. Or at least someone who truly cares and considers the patient, not someone just wrapped up in their own ego and credentials...
I hope you'll find the right one.

I occasionally see your messages on the forum, and they're always filled with sincerity and care.

This time too, after reading your message, I felt a bit calmer, and I think I've come up with some ideas on how to get rid of this doctor and hopefully find someone else.

Thank you, and sending you a hug.

I saw a blog for people with chronic fatigue syndrome written by a patient & I think it had a website where you could order psychiatric medications without a prescription on it. I am sorry that I don't remember the name of it though.

I wish the couple of meds I tried had helped me but they made my life much worse.

If they were finally working for you, that doctor is one of the most stupid people. Idk why I have seen a lot of people say they found meds that work and then one of their providers suddenly decides for them that they aren't going to take it anymore for no reason. Have they not heard of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? That's because making changes when something is finally working smoothly can make it worse.

It's also dangerous to stop cold turkey. And I think that doctor could probably be legally reported for what they did & what they said about mental illness. But I understand that people don't always have extra energy to do things like that.

Reminds me of the time I went to see a random general doctor to renew an SSRI prescription. During our ten-minute conversation, he deduced that actually I was not depressed because look! I'm smiling and sociable! Therefore rather than renewing the prescription, he opened up wikipedia to show me some kind of flower which has wonderful healing properties when brewed into tea. All I have to do is go into the forest to gather the flowers, and my problems will be solved.

He seemed to have no idea about the dangers of quitting SSRIs cold turkey, or if he did, he didn't give a shit. It was one of the more bizarre doctor encounters I've ever had.

Yeah, you should report him. He isn't supposed to be doing stuff like that.

If you live in one of the approved states in the United States, I found some online psychiatry websites, but there could be barriers if you're not in the right location to qualify, can't afford it, or don't have the insurance for the one that accepts insurance. (Also looks like these websites do not prescribe controlled substances/stimulants or sedatives/benzos)

I'm sorry, I know this is expensive, but I found a website where you may be able to get your prescriptions at an online appointment if you have $195 (does not accept insurance) & live in one of the approved states. The homepage says:

However, as per the latest update from the DEA, current rules have been extended until December 31, 2025. So, patients can continue receiving online prescriptions without the need to see their healthcare providers in person.

That website is: https://medvidi.com/

I also found this website for Canada & a few U.S. states (can't tell how reliable/reputable it is, the other 2 websites listed look official though):

List of medications page for that website: https://yourdoctors.online/online-prescription/

And this website has a list of possible website suggestions or a program of Talkspace:

Here is a list of medications & FAQs:

"Reach out to Talkspace today to learn how to get psychiatric medication and care without insurance. We offer you access to professional care and psychiatric drugs that are affordable, accessible, and convenient."

Talkspace is in-network with most major insurance plans and will bill your insurer directly for your care. The average copay for insured members is only $30.

If you pay out-of-pocket your initial appointment with a Talkspace psychiatric provider will cost $299 for the evaluation, diagnosis, and prescription

If you are prescribed medication you'll pay for it directly at the pharmacy of your choice. ‍

We currently accept insurance from Premera, Cigna, Optum, Gatorcare, Aetna, and more"

I can't find the other insurance companies when I click on the link but it says you can call the phone number on your insurance card and ask if they cover this service.

fuck doctors man. my mom's a doctor and she honestly doesn't understand anything about mental health. some doctors and psychiatrists just think that they have some moral high ground because they're helping people that pay to see them, even though a lot of them just spout nonsense because no one will fact check them. i hate old doctors the most. they're still allowed to be doctors even though they're way past their prime.

You could ask the family doc to refer you to a psychiatrist instead. (No guarantee that you will like the psychiatrist either, but it's worth a shot.)

I use perplexity.ai as a doctor at the end I just need some meds and the informations are open in web (as long as you have internet)

I wish I could get nebutal easly or very strong barbiturates but in germany they cannot be prescripet only on a privat prescription. I would be long gone with access to suicide drug, and not feel boredom and anger or sadness all the time. I have no access to a normal life, no money and they want to actively make me homeless, so the society wants that I kms or they want to abuse me further in asylums because they get money from our suffering. This is why this society will never go against discrimination, the whole concept is build on richer people shitting and abusing poorer people. Our problem is that we believe in money, rather than solidarity and altruism.

I feel you. I'm sorry you're dealing with all this. I guess I'm in a similar position. At least in regards of not having money, normal life and being on the verge of becoming homeless.
I also only need some meds too, not advices or experiments from those doctors.

Altruism is virtually nonexistent, unfortunately. It's rare to find someone empathetic enough.
Either way, wishing you luck and sending hugs.

That is a reason why I went to this family doctor in the first place. She promised to give me an appointment with a psychiatrist but didn't actually do it until my second visit, when I had to insist on arranging it right then and there.

But you were right, I didn't really like the psychiatrist either lol

TOTALLY agree with you as medical and dental and the like is ALL about the money period.

Here in the U.S., EVERY time I have to go to the doctor or dentist, everything is private insurance here, the VERY 1st thing that I am asked is "is your insurance still correct?"

I pay almost $500 (USD) PER MONTH or $6,000 per year for health insurance, YIKES! No wonder I am still working at the age of 69. This amount does NOT even include my dental insurance.

In the U.S. it seems to be medical/dental vs insurance companies with the poor patient caught in the middle.
