I want to move to Belgium, where they allow euthanasia for the mentally ill. I've been fighting mental illness since 2001, possibly earlier. I've tried everything. When is enough enough?

Here is an interesting video about a young man in Canada who advocated for euthanasia for the mentally ill.

We should be able to make our own decision if we've tried treatment without success. Instead, we're forced to die an undignified death at our own hands.

Dude I feel this 210%. I would rather go peacefully with something I know that works than what we are all doing now.... all of us desperately trying to claw ourselves out of this hell and transition to whatever lies beyond

His illness is not mental though. It's physical just like a migrane is. Whether it's brain giving impulse or nerve giving impulse is irrelevant. Which doesn't mean it's necessarily eligible for assisted suicide but still. I think that's the point he should rather be making.

I relate very much to Adam. Being treatment-resistant and having stress-induced symptoms I have exhausted the available medications and Therapies. Out of desperation I underwent ECT electric convulsive therapy which should not be taken lightly. I did both unilateral and bilateral procedures multiple sessions. There is no fixing me I am hopeless helplessly trapped by my condition.

I've also had ECT. I've gone through 26 sessions, some bilateral and some unilateral. I can't do it anymore because it really affects my memory. Today I learned about something called magnetic seizure therapy, which is like ECT but uses magnets instead of electricity and it's not supposed to affect your memory. The only problem is, it's still an experimental treatment.

For me the doctor's administrating the ECT chose to stop any further treatment because of the negative effects.

I knew Adam from another mental health forum we were both members of. He took his life and I posted a brief tribute to him on there, saying how it felt like I was maybe just a few years behind him. He was a brilliant soul, forced to take his life in a brutal manner. He had a hell of a time in life, and was always in a lot of pain. Hope he is at peace at last.

Yes; I hope he is at peace, too. It's a shame we have to harm ourselves in scary and sometimes painful ways when it could be easy and painless with friends and family surrounding us during euthanasia.

Or, equally worse, we are forced to continue on living this way until a socially acceptable cause of death - like cancer - kills us instead. It is such a twisted fucking world, man. I've gone back and forth, from being severely depressed...and not depressed at all.....and even on my best non-depressed days, I still felt like crying because of how sick and disgusting this world is.

If there's anything I've learnt, depression should not be treated with any kind of drug. Only a positive mindset and some time away from work can improve depressive symptoms.

I was lured into the psychiatrist trap after a GP prescribed me some benzos (was completely ignorant about them), ended up in withdrawals from just 2 weeks use and non-stop polydrugging.

I've been given SSRIs and Atypicals in my desperation to stop the unbearable withdrawal symptoms and if anything they do nothing but poison the brain and create a mental fog, cause emotional anhedonia and sexual dysfunction. You might as well get on Meth to stay happy.

If you haven't touched the drugs. Don't. Your life can be saved yet.

He was lucky enough to be able to get Nembutal, so his wish was sort of granted. I wish there was a video like this about every single one of us, at least they wouldn't forget about us.
