Race is a social construct.

No, I'm not one of those pink haired men who wear tights that deny obvious truths about reality.
I'm being serious.

'Race' is simply a form of categorisation that is totally arbitrary.
Granted, there may be a genetic component that determines how much melanin is produced in the skin for instance, which in turn determines whether somebody is black, say.
But how much melanin is present in somebody's skin changes over time: the most obvious example being a sun tan.

While some categories are certainly not arbitrary (gender, for instance), sadly many of the ways in which humans decide to split themselves up is based on categories that are completely arbitrary.

But is it really an arbitrary move to say that, for example, japanese people constitute a geographically and phenotypically distinct group from say, people from east africa, or people from scandanavia, or the traditional amerindians?
It seems to me that you can classify populations statistically based on observed characteristics in a way which isn't completely arbitrary but which doesn't imply that there is any kind or hierarchy or moral judgement involved.

Oh well the statement that people who have been categorised as being part of a particular race tend to occupy a particular place on Earth is true, even if the category of 'race' itself is arbitrary.
But then one has to ask the question what purpose does this observation serve?
For all intents and purposes boundaries between countries are arbitrary in the sense that they arose due to historic events rather than some fundamental universal law or property of the universe.
In that way, what country you happen to have been born in is also arbitrary.

The concept and preference of race is rather subjective,
However there is a objective factor how people are treated in societies,
The privilege and whatnot,
But as Asian, I've come pretty far already, in terms of grasping the concept.

I was feeling like a mental deficient when I went to a college with mostly Asian students. I think I read somewhere they have a much higher income than the average person. At least in the U.S.
