Can you close the door and also lock it up ?
If so then I wouldn't tie the rope on the door handle but instead make a thick knot or tie it on a dumbbell or something else and then close the door these things will be thick enough so that the rope won't be able to completely go through the door.

Is it best to close the door? I just didn't want the rope tearing

Yes it's the best. This is indeed something I'd also be concerned about but once I practiced partial with a scarf doing the door Methode as described and the scarf wasn't damaged at all so if your rope is of strong material it should work but it's always better to test before doing anything.

Dont do partial full suspension is the only way to go if the rope and anchor points are correct then its over as soon as you take that leap no amount of SI can stop you only a some nosy prick can stop that but of course you have to make sure there are no such pricks around .

The installation in the first photo looks correct to me. However, make sure the rope doesn't slip on the top of the door. But given the height of the door, it will probably be a full suspension hanging, unless you are over 1.85m tall.
