Thanks for this. I'm thinking inert gas + exit bag likely falls under "suffocation" since they're inert, not poisonous, and because in a sense, that's what happens. Carbon monoxide seems more ambiguous, not sure what category that would be in.

that muddies the waters for the success rate of "suffocation/hanging" then, since there's way more of a chance of messing up a DIY exit bag than just hanging yourself. that, or exit bags and the like are significantly more foolproof than i thought!

I guess my thoughts on that are… that while hanging seems more straightforward, neither that nor exit bags are foolproof. But yes it would've been nice if they had made the whole thing clearer .
