My government insurance for indigents required me to find a primary care doctor and do a health exam. One of the forms I had to fill out asked if I ever had passive suicidal ideation on a scale from 0 to 5, so I marked 1. The Dr reviewed the forms and said I needed to change it to zero otherwise he'd be required to call the police and have me committed involuntarily for 72 hours. It used to be that'd only happen when you said you were actively suicidal, had a plan, etc. So now you can get thrown in a cage, drugged up, and reeducated just for thinking about it. Land of the free🤮

It's always better not to mention anything about suicidal ideation at all. You were lucky that the doc warned you and prevented u from being involuntarily imprisoned in a psych ward.

I wish you all the best!

I agree.

Suicidal thoughts are best not told to anyone.

You can be sent to a psychiatric hospital even if you just say you don't want to live.

Scary but shows for us honesty isn't the best policy unless you WANT help.

I've never told anyone about the depths of my thoughts and never will.

It's sickening that as suicidal people / people with suicidal thoughts we are viewed as crazy instead of helpless and that locking us up is the way to cure us.

Wow, that's bad for that to be the case. I'm probably being watched here in the UK because I say I think about suicide each day but have no plans to go through with it but they don't do anything here unless they think you have an actual plan. I kind of thought America would be the same.

Something like that almost happened to me in the UK a number of years ago.
I was in really dark place and told my doctor that I was. He wouldn't let me leave the room until I promised I wasn't going to act on those thoughts, even then he was reluctant to let me leave.

I've always been careful since then, but almost had it happen again last year on the phone to a psychiatrist, was in a very bad way again and was a bit too honest. She wanted me to send me to a psych world but managed to convince her not to send me to one.

Total oppression. Proves USA and this evil world is a prison slavery torture.

More reasons for me to kill myself asap . I'm in america too . They could lock me up if I said to people any of the things I posted on this site like that i think life is bad .

Or that I do want to kill myself. I will do it and they can't stop me

Just terrible, and who is that supposed to help? As far as I can tell, the main beneficiary would be the psych ward, certainly not the patient. I would be interested to know about the origins of how that form/policy were created. Our healthcare system (like everything else) has been butchered by greedy middlemen and charlatans pushing unhelpful and often harmful treatments.

It's so horrible how people are punished simply for wanting to die in this existence where there is no limit as to how much one can suffer, this anti-suicide society truly is so hellish.

America is an extremely litigious country so doctors and therapists are more easily spooked than elsewhere.

That said what he said was completely inappropriate and not conducive to anything. And they wonder why places like this exist.
