Some pro-lifer type people I was speaking to were trying to convince me that CTB is never the right response, but I think the fact that there are so many highly intelligent people who opted for this is kind of a good contradiction to that narrative. I've been reading a lot about Sylvia Plath and David Foster Wallace for instance. Who are the main people who fall into this category for you?

Ignorance is bliss. More intelligent people see the world for what it really is.

There was that hyper-intelligent gifted kid that commited suicide to donate his organs (makes you wonder when a child prodigy chooses to CTB at 14)

Ernest Hemingway was a giant in American Literature. He was quite intelligent and successful financially. on July 2, 1961 he committed suicide in Ketchum Idaho. His family had a strong history of mental issues as seven members of his extended family committed suicide. Numerous successful and famous musicians and singers have ctb. Sometimes it seems the more intelligent one is the more they realize the futility of life

I've always simply seen it as the more the brain learns about the world around it, the more we learn about ourselves and humanity as a whole, the more the brain desires to destroy itself. There is only so much awareness one can handle in this life.

For me- although it was an attempt rather than a completed act- Stephen Fry in terms of intelligence.

Also- while it's debatable as to whether Vincent Van Gogh did commit suicide- I feel sure he was suicidal throughout his life. I sincerely think that this world is simply too brutal for some people. I love the verse in the song: 'Starry, starry night':

'You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you, Vincent
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you'

Socrates' suicide went viral & was a major event in western philosophy. (He ctb'd with the SN of the day)

Some might claim it was an execution, but everyone just assumed he'd run off to exile. His supporters tried showering him with toxic positivity & whatnot, but he refused to leave
