Indeed. Anyone who thinks that humans have some redeemable quality that makes up for the carnage we impose on every living thing – including ourselves – is completely out of touch with reality; they are, in effect, living in a fantasy novel.
Actually, there are several ways to observe the true horror that is going on and has been doing so ever since sentience became a thing. For example, you can watch the news, or recordings about slaughterhouses, or even something that I've personally never dared to watch – gore videos and websites. That right there will show you how much torture humanity as a whole has the potential to inflict.
Moreover, I think we are all susceptible to turning into monsters, since a world this ugly and unfair can break previously innocent people at any time. The movie Joker brilliantly reflects this idea – which is why I like said film so much. It tells the story of a troubled man who simply wanted to get by and also be a comedian. However, his surroundings treat him in such a cruel and unjust manner that he ends up becoming the sadistic, heartless nihilist we all know – the Joker.
P.S.: Sorry for the long rant, but I can't help it; it's pathological. You can rightfully hate me all you want.
