  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Human life is valued too much in the society of today. Modern medicine prolongs human life, but our pets are killed at the veterinarian to avoid meaningless suffering. Human life is prolonged, no matter how life turns out for us and no matter the circumstances - humans are expected to suffer as long as possible before they die. There are terminally ill patients who are lying in nursing homes for several years, slowly tormented to death.

Life expectancy is too high in many countries, life becomes too long. There are people who live 120 years and they must suffer from age-related ailments and there are people who live as homeless for many years, some of them are homeless until they die. Some people are very programmed to live, some people live in total denial of death. People get scared when talking about human death - in a world where we all have to die eventually.

But I want to live and die with dignity. I want to go to a doctor in the nearest hospital and have a lethal injection. It is possible to get a lethal injection at the veterinarian, but only for our pets, not for the human animal. All people should have the right to euthanasia whenever we want it and we should not have to motivate ourself.

Many people on Sanctioned Suicide want to die so we are still alive? Firstly, no one should have to commit suicide, which is the most difficult thing to do. Secondly, it is not enough to find the courage to die because the survival instinct will probably stop us. Thirdly, it is difficult to find lethal drugs and aids. Fourthly, it is hard to commit suicide alone because no one can help us if the method does not work.

Suicide should not be taboo, people have the right to exit whenever they want. How can people have children into a world where our pets are treated better than humans? Should we be forced to go on when we had enough? The best Christmas for me would be a lethal injection. Most suicides occur on New Year´s Day.

It was interesting to read this because I actually want to ctb for opposite reasons. I think human life is valued too little in society. And I see the rejection of the right to die as one of the many symptoms of that.

This is the sentiment that I hear time and time again by those who are personally impacted by this, the ability to access a peaceful end at the time of choosing should be seriously considered as one of the most important issues facing humanity.

It boggles the mind that this has not been recognized and developed along with other areas of scientific advancement.

I believe that in the (hopefully not-too-distant) future, the taboo's imposed on this will be removed and dying with dignity will become available to the population at large, but a lot of social evolution is needed, and to do away with outdated beliefs and religious control.

It's okay to have personal beliefs, but forcing others to have the same is not.

Some countries who ironically also lead the way in other important areas like climate change and human rights are slowly paving the way for this much needed development. This important topic is all too often ignored and human beings are made to suffer as a result.

I think the whole forum would be with you on this one. I certainly am!

Don't think it's valued so much as it's just a status quoa. Nobody likes change and allowing people to escape from this world would be quite a big(though welcome for some of us) change.

I agree with what you are saying. Suicide should not be so stigmatised. The society places more emphasis on quantity of lives rather than quality. I think many people live under a delusion that life is always worth living and they therefore dismiss those who want to die as always being irrational. I believe that wanting suicide is perfectly rational in a life like this, for me it makes sense to want to escape decades of suffering. More than anything I would like the option of euthanasia. A peaceful exit at a time of my own choosing is what I deserve.

I don't understand why we value life so much in general. If I asked some random person why we value life so much that we ceaselessly make more of it, I believe they wouldn't know. It's not like there are any consequences if nobody had children anymore. Is it religion? Species-wide SI? Primal lust? I can't understand.

Lol I just wanted to make a thread with the title "Has human life intrinsic value?" So I will write that down here.
Yes I have the opinion human life as intrinsic value. But so does the lives of animals have intrinisc value. I don't get the argumentation of churches or pro-lifers. If something has intrinsic value you are not allowed to end it. I see there no contradiction. You are not obliged to prolong life as much as possible. We would also have to forbid fast food, cigarettes and force everyone to do sports every day otherwise.
If we allow to kill animals, (most of them get tortured to death by us) I don't see any problem by asking a human being if the person wants to continue living. And then accepting the decision. (I think if someone is only in a temporary crisis you should talk to the person about their wish. But with the current laws it is all so stigmatized and the people are forced into illegal actions if they want to die peacefully.)
I think it is obvious that you are morally obliged not to hurt any other sentient human beings. Especially not to kill them if they DO NOT want it. However if someone made a rational decision we don't have the right to lock them up in the psych ward.
I am sure with new methods to prolong life we will have a discussion about assisted suicide. In my country the majority of people are pro assisted suicide. The people more and more get how it is to rot in very old age. In loneliness, no one cares about one and the staff treats you like garbage. Not everyone has enough money for a good treatment.

I would like to add something. We have to differentiate between value of life and life quality. In my opinion these are 2 different things. Life can has a certain value but the quality of life can be miserable. About antinatalism I am not sure my opinion on that. If you have very good gens, intellignet enough to be a good parent, living in a rich country the idea of procreating must not be bad. Life can be beautiful.
But life can also be extremely horrible. And most people in the world suffer daily and many of them would ctb if they had the means to do so. Many parents are selfish, do not reflect much about parenthood. Children can be very vulnerable. Humans in general. One bad accident and you are not able anymore to communicate or move and just suffer without being able to express it.

people doesn't value life, they value their vision of the world where no one wants to die, they are selfish and blind, they don't understand anything different from they... so suicide is a sin, a illnes and must be threated. there's no understanding that is how we live that matters and not how long... giving someone the right to die is not something easy, it requires a lot of effort in understanding that you are talking to someone different from you that can have completely different fears and needs from you. Stigmatizing it is just the way people solve the problem cause it forges deep question and the answer to that question are not so pleasant
