Can i use potassium ferrocyanide/ferricyanide to make potassium cyanide? I don't have lab equipment but I've been led to believe by the research ive done that it does make potassium cynaide when heated enough. Ive dissolved the stuff i cooked in a pot on the stove in water and the thermometer said 800°, enough rambling can someone plz help me make cyanide.

To make potassium cyanide, eight parts of potassium ferrocyanide are mixed intimately with three parts of potassium carbonate, and placed in a non-porous crucible heated red-hot, prefer- ably with a blow torch.

This is kept up until gas ceases to be evolved and the liquid matter is transparent. This liquid portion is poured off into a bowl where it can later be powdered and stored. The remaining sediment in your crucible is mostly iron and may be disposed of.

Resin or picric acid are easier to make and more potent...

Edit:
Changed "Pitric acid" to "Picric Acid"

This is shitpost-level chemistry.

There is a pretty simple, though inefficient, way to do this in the lab by bubbling a certain toxic gas through it. There is no way of doing it at home and you will seriously hurt yourself if you try. Please do not attempt to do this. You will end up blind, missing fingers, or brain-damaged. I am so serious, this is a stupid thing to attempt. ESPECIALLY the strong acid thing I've seen around, that is an idiotic thing to do and could leave you permanently disabled. Please please please do not attempt this.

I can explain more about why it's impractical if you're interested. Please put it away if you have it now. Pour it into a closed container.

Darn that is harsh </3

Well OP asked how to make not to tell him not to. :P

At least i answered the question.

I can be rude too *HUMPH*

I feel like I'm talking to two children who are playing with a gun. Playing with chemicals will hurt you in ways you didn't know existed. Iron cyanide complexes are not super toxic bc they have a high CFSE. They won't exchange the cyanide under most conditions. But attempting to do anything with them could lead you to injure yourself in stupid ways.

Isn't OP referring to a legitimate way of producing KCN? Decomposing potassium ferrocyanide is something that used to be reliably done (in a lab) to produce KCN. I agree that OP will probably explode if they do this without a lab or an actual understanding of chemistry and the risks of this, but it's not exactly a shitpost level reaction.

Edit: I just read that OP intended to use water with Cyanide nevermind that will literally just kill you:smiling:

In a 1000 degree C furnace, by pouring a 1000 degree liquid salt. Not in aqueous solution. OP thinks he heated water to 800 degrees...

Yeah I didn't catch that at first, there's a huge difference not to mention aqueous CN will produce deadly gas.

You're referring to a real process, but this post reminds me of the saying "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing". If you went through with what you mentioned in the post you could seriously die or go blind as k1m said. If you want to consider using chemistry to produce anything you need to have actual lab equipment and a lot more knowledge on the subject. Even if you properly decomposed potassium ferrocyanide, doing it in your kitchen is basically a suicide method on its own.
