I don't think I have anything serious enough to get put on any medications or have mandatory therapy appointments. I think something isn't right, though. I've never really put in any effort to get professional help for my mental health because I didn't care and didn't plan on living anyway, so respectively there was no point. I'm still alive and I don't plan on catching the bus or dying in at least the next year or so.

I've only ever seen two therapists. The first 3 times and the second once. I'm not sure why I stopped going to the second one. Anyways, How do I know when I need to get some help? One thing I've realized when I was in therapy was how painfully easy it was for me to pretend I was alright the entire appointment, even when talking about "traumatic" things and for me to not say everything if I didn't want to include it in whatever I was telling the therapist.

Is there some kind of intuitive feeling or recognition of a pattern that tells you you should probably get help? I think things may get worse for me this time if I don't try because now, I have people I have to live for. Maybe not for long, but you get my point. Thanks for anything.

For me it is when the situation is beyond your control and you no longer know what to do or how to help yourself but you know you want to deal with it... it's not that professional help is going to solve all your problems, but sometimes That I have gone down that path has been because of those circumstances.

One thing I've realized when I was in therapy was how painfully easy it was for me to pretend I was alright the entire appointment, even when talking about "traumatic" things and for me to not say everything if I didn't want to include it in whatever I was telling the therapist.
It is one of the things why I stopped going to the psychiatrist... it is too easy to lie to them and as long as you tell them what they want to hear, they are satisfied.

I think that if you're here and you were not planning on continue living, that is enough reason to seek professional help.

Don't worry about not including certain things, the psychologist probably noticed and just didn't push it because that's what psychologists do. Therapy works on a basis of trust first and foremost and that trust is earned so it's normal to not tell everything right off the bat.

I have been in therapy for 16 years, all with the same psychologist. He was someone I felt was right for me, that got me, that's important in therapy to find the right psychologist. It will take time to get to know each other and to open up completely and that's fine and expected. If you never gave therapy a try, which sounds like the case, I'd recommend going for it.

If you feel you have MH issues (incl. suicidal ideation) you should seek professional help / treatment asap (That's in the case you want it ofc!). The longer MH issues persist the harder it is to treat them.

So if u ask for therapy/meds when you are deeply depressed since years then it's harder to find a way out than when u feel light symptoms long before it gets worse.

This is personal opinion.
