I can be tired but still not fall asleep. Sometimes I try to go to sleep earlier but then it takes me like 6 hours to fall asleep. What the hell am I supposed to?

Melotonin is a sleep aid you can buy off the shelf. 10mg is the highest dosage tablet or chewable. If you have a doctor who can write you a prescription, Ambien, Seraquel or Trazadone are three I've tried and work pretty good.

I would check insomnia forums and look for users that aren't active because they succeeded.

Then copy their methods. Eventually you'll find one that works for you too.

They could be doing other stuff like gaming, very often one of the root causes for insomnia.

GABA is another supplement to look into.

It might help to avoid stimulation before sleep (like TV or video games)

Getting up a little earlier might also help.

I have a few techniques for falling asleep:
-counting backwards from 300 by 3s (300, 297, 294, etc)
-mentally walking through a place I know really well noticing every detail
-tapping left and right at a slow cadence on my chest or pillow and breathing in 4 hold 4 out 4 hold 4
-audiobooks usually boring ones
I also limit my caffeine to 1 cup in the morning, try to wake up early and get my body moving to start my circadian rhythm, and read a book to relax vs screens
I hope this helps

I try to wear myself out during the day, whether it's walks or the gym or otherwise. Melatonin helps. A strict, regimented schedule helps, too. If none of those work, I'd say to try to get something rx.

Yes, exersize during the day is one of the best ways to fall asleep at night. Getting up early is also great, but because I'm extremely depressed (and retired) I can't make myself get up early. And yes, I know that laying in bed in the morning when you are awake only makes depression worse, but I just don't have any reason to get up.

Some good ones here, for sure. Melatonin didn't work for me, personally, but it's a good option all the same. I noticed it worked better for helping me stay asleep once I finally got there, but that wasn't really the root of it. I'll throw in some I haven't seen yet, just in case:

Your brain is programmed to associate locations with actions. So, for instance, when you spend time in bed on your phone, you're telling your brain that when you're in bed, you could/should be on your phone. Not sure if that's an issue for you or not, but I've had luck with just turning off screens an hour before bed and just chilling out.

That wasn't really a cure-all for me, 'cuz the root of my insomnia is brain chemistry stuff(bipolar, extreme anxiety, etc. etc.), so my issues with sleep are more that my mind is racing and won't stop for anything. What helped that out the most was putting on some youtube video of a reasonable length that I'd already seen before, turning off the screen and setting it to the side, so my brain had something to focus in on, but not be invested in.

All the same, I hope something here comes through for you and you get some good rest.

Is your insomnia chronic or is it more due to a stress factor? I assume you already tried all the usual advices and failed. If it's due to a particular identifiable stress factor, you can try to kill time by doing something meaningful instead of trying to sleep (a way to kill time can be to drink wine and take benzo pills...)

If it's chronic then it's chronic. Just give up on sleep altogether. Some of us only need 4-5h/nights anyway. life became more tolerable when I stopped obsessing about sleep and started reading books while sipping coffee at night time.

although it's true I feel exhausted most of the time. but I also have crippling anxiety most of the time and it didn't kill me.

If this is a huge, lasting (1y +) problem, I would recommed Quetapine 25mg (lowest dose for adults). You'll fall asleep after ca 1 hour. Side effect on Quetapine is mainly that you feel groggy the morning after.

I don't know.

I used to enjoy going out and wandering

Driving or riding my motorcycle

Anything

Working when I had overnight jobs

Drawing

Even walking but not in places where you're not really supposed to be out

I have problems sleeping and waking up, eating and going back to sleep.

That's what's sad. People who FUCK with me over whatever they can whenever they can. Trying to be "normal" and "functional" and being stalked and chased and pestered and pushed and annoyed and fucked with more and more and more and more because people are so god damn fucking selfish and evil.

Perhaps responded to the wrong thread.

I find waking early and sticking to a schedule - similar times daily - helpful. Sadly it is but one tool in the box. Still trying to find the answer to OP's question myself.

So far the only thing that has worked for me was olanzapine. I don't know what it has but has kept me from being insomniac this last year. 10/10 do recommend desu

No, not singing

Just the same loop of the same words for the same old bullshit.

I'm not singing and it's not a song. It's just words that explain my entire life. A fucking horrible existence with horrible people and horrible circumstances and horrible family. Not a song.

You'll see over time many people say the same things. Their words read all the same, all the same stories and all the same circumstances and all the same shit repeatedly. It just repeats itself in a loop and people say ahhh I love hurting people.

Food for sleep: More heavy protein and healthy fat with dinner. A strong chamomile tea with like 4 teabags before bed. A few spoonfuls of peanut butter.

Drugs for sleep: Back when I used to smoke, in the evening Indica only. The more mature the bud the better (think red hairs, not bright green and sticky) A few sips of warm sake or gin.

I often have trouble falling asleep. In such cases, I depend on pills. I've been using clonazepam on and off over the years.

I've had the same issue for as long as I can remember. Sleeping pills are the only things that work for me.

I've been on a lot of stuff, but what helps me sleep is actually Oxazepam. I suffered from insomnia for a period, but it stopped after I self isolated. Turned out that my sleeping disorder was not a sleeping disorder at all, but in fact just anxiety.
