Please I need help with carbon monoxide poisoning. I haven't done the reasearch. I know I'm an idiot.

I bought a BBQ grill and charcoal briquettes (4 kg). I've never grilled so I don't know what to do. I'm pretty dumb so I need some manual like step by step.

Can you give me any advice please?

You have to burn the briquette first. This will take 40-50 minutes. This will produce
a lot of smoke. After the the briquettes should be grey on top and red in the bottom.

This methode has only a success rate of 50%.

Never worked with charcoal, will it just stop burning completely? How will I be able to tell if CO is being produced or not?

You buy these straw/wooden fire starter. You let these starter burn. Your charcoal gets grey over time while producing smoke.

If your charcoal got grey and no smoke is produced anymore, but on the bottom side it glimms red, then a lot of CO is produced.

Just get a small gas powered item and lock yourself in a room with towels under the Door. Then you wont set your house on fire accidentally. You should never leave fire unattended

I am curious how did so many people, especially in Asian countries, able to successfully CTB with charcoal. E.g. https://www.nationthailand.com/national/30364540

In this case, the person use a simple claypot with charcoal in a car.

It's just so hard to believe that such a small amount is enough, even in a car, since it has vents, and leaks under the doors, etc.
Maybe because they use Ang lo? This is quite common in Asian countries to cook stuff, especially in poorer countries where they couldn't afford things like BBQ griller sold in most Western Countries.

From what I know Asian charcoal is better quality with less additives and therefore produces more CO. I have binchotan, if its legit it should work well.

Interesting.

I know nothing about binchotan, but when I was in Indonesia, the charcoal looks "normal". E.g. the street vendor where they grill meat looks to use regular charcoal. Maybe they use coconut charcoal?
