How much sodium nitrite is enough to peacefully kill a whale?

I expect, if they had to euthanize a whale, they would give it something more humane like Nembutal. I've heard that Carfentanil is even more potent. That's the irony really- I doubt they would see SN as a peaceful or reliable way to euthanize animals. Otherwise- I imagine they would be doing it.
