How much do you trust the media in your country?

One of the biggest mistakes from German media is to take US broadcast stations as respectable sources for their reporting. NBC, MSNBC, CNN. There are pundits that just copy these talking points. The analysis of US politics is often very superficial. Usually it is better to read American sources. Certain newspapers or newsmagazines.

I think German media is in general stronger in how they report about wealth disparity and the connection between extreme wealth accumulation and fasicsm/ring-wing extreme ideology.

In general I think in the media landscape in Germany is healthier than in some other countries. But there is a lot of pro-Israel propaganda. And it is almost impossible to escape that. The interesting thing is in elite circles and journals they are even more in favor of Israel. This lesson baffled me. But the Springer Company (the one that bought Politico) commits their staff to be in favor of Israel which is insane. The publicly funded broadcast is probably still better than the counterpart from UK/the US. The aforementioned are too obsessed with the two side approach.

As someone living in the US, you really hit the nail on the head with that two sides critique. Trust isn't even the right word for how I look at our media. Its more about how the whole system is fundamentally built to flatten nuance. Dealing with historical research every day, it's incredibly frusterating to watch complex issues get stripped of all context and turned into a commodified spectacle. Mainstream media here doesn't exist to encourage critical thought. It just monetizes people's anxiety. It's hard to place trust in an industry that just acts like anesthesia.

To be honest, I also think that our media tries to gaslight most of the population, but what country doesn't? It's already considered a "normal" thing because of how widely spread it is. I don't support it in any way, but I think everyone should already know that our media (stuff like BILD or other news articles) are not really neutral, especially when it comes to Israel, AfD, and like you said, all of the right wing political stuff. I wouldn't say that they are trying to manipulate us or something, but they definitely want to hide the whole truth in almost every topic.

So in conclusion I would say that I personally don't really trust the media here in Germany, since, like I said, it's never really the truth, but rather the softer and more "state-friendly" version on whatever topic they are reporting on.

i agree on this, i've been using Ground News to try to get better news coverage for Germany and lol it is not working. i go on DW sometimes or listen to the radio/podcast but it's not quite the same as what i am hoping for in terms of regular coverage of what goes on in politics and law, general news, warnings and updates, polling, etc.

Oh and as well, i trust my former residence of the US much less than i used to. coverage of israel's genocide on gaza as an isreal-hamas conflict rather than the full context of zionism revealed which news sources i wanted to keep listening to. now i listen to the AP headlines, Al Jazeera headlines, and NPR's WBUR because they did a decent job in the last years in general with Israel-Palestine and Trump and more. But those three still have biases: no story can be told without a bias; to declare which stance is "neutral" is itself a perspective, a take, a bias. i learned that from anarchist journalists on It Could Happen Here, and now that's my primary news source. if journalism will always have a perspective, i want it to be one that values humanity, care, respect to all involved, all the stuff i like about anarchism.

I live in the United Kingdom, so I don't trust the local media too much. There's far too much righteous stupidity over here - the BBC refer to this particular online forum as 'an evil place that encourages children to commit suicide' and calls for it to be taken down. And the less said about the indignant delusionists at Ofcom, the better.
