Help How much ahead of time should I make my forest shelter before my CTB?

It's a debris shelter so it's medium level labour intensive (I think?).

I thought the day before I should make it, but what if my muscles are sore then it'll be too hard to bike there (1 hour bike ride).

So then I was thinking exactly a week before I could make it? I can only go on Saturday or Friday (nights or extremely early mornings).

I figure if anyone sees it (which would be rare since it's off trail), they will think nothing of it other than kids made it as a fort.

I can also saw the branches needed for the shelter and then leave them there and then the next time I'm there I can assemble the shelter. I don't know how much time I'd have before morning walkers come out and hear me sawing wood (I don't know how loud it is at all tho).

Need some advice on what you all think?

Depending on what size shelter you plan to build determines how long it will take. Some you can get done in several hours, some will take a day or longer.

You can look on Google about shelter building in the woods or watch YouTube videos. I watch those quite a bit.

Handsaws usually aren't very loud, but in the silent woods, sounds can carry. Being about 50 to 75 yards in the woods off a trail should provide you with little chance of being seen by morning walkers.

It's a debris shelter, it'll look similar to the pic I put except covered in leaves probably. I don't even know how big I'll make it, probably big enough for just enough comfort.

I want to dig small trenches for the bottom parts of the branches to be underground and then filled in with dirt, to make it more sturdy.

I also want the opening to be right in front of a tree so that when I CTB I also have the option of leaning back onto it as well as laying flat down.

And then I want to make some sort of coverings to seal the opening but haven't looked into that yet.

That's one of the simple ones. If you have enough stuff laying around, you could do that in a day. That's the kind I had considered building at one time. For the opening, you could use a tarp. Use a dark colored one so the brighter color doesn't stick out.

I think I want something heavier that blocks sound. I'm kind of paranoid I will be heard…

If you plan to put dirt on top as well, it might muffle the sound. If not, a tarp won't be much different at blocking sound than just using sticks and leaves.

Other than that, I don't know what else to do since you're collecting what you need off the forest floor. You're going to have a limited supply of material.

I actually just realized that I have to do it in the winter time. Because I'm afraid of ticks, they freak me out. So it will be covered in snow instead.

But sticks and leaves do offer some sound proofing. It does absorb some of the sound.
