How many people have you blocked on this site?

I usually try not to block people online. We need to hear differing opinions and be in situations that we may find challenging.

That being said, I've hit "Ignore" on my fourth person today. Seems this site tends to attract people who are rougher around the edges, which is understandable considering the circumstances.

But I also don't want to be around excessive negativity/jerks. So making use of the button.

What about you?

I've blocked two. The first one I called out after finding out her story on her reason to ctb, was a crock of shit.

The second was a female just wanting to have online sex chats.

Quite crazy that those s*xbots are even roaming SaSu ... thought the entry procedure will slow them down (but silent moderation of new posts, where users don't even know their posts have to pass thru a quick moderation queue... may help)

I blocked 0 users, and doubt anyone blocked me.

Yeah I feel yah. It's mostly how I operate. I've been on other forums/apps where if you even breath wrong people will block you.

I typically just ignore stuff until I see the same person posting a 200 line monologue about how the world is crap multiple times.

I'm here for community and info and interesting conversations, not endless negativity.

Blocking, isolating people, it's a really crappy thing to do. As compulsively social animals, we're hard-wired to see being driven out of social situations as a threat, thus it causes pain, as much as our personalities might crave isolation a lot of the time.

Everyone on this site has serious social problems of one sort or another. Doing that to them would add to those problems, and even if I don't get along with them I'm not going to add to their misery.

As AI gets smarter and smarter, expect crazy bots that can bypass every single security measure and roam all the forums online just like regular people do. We'll probably be having complete conversations with bots and direct messages with them without even knowing. Probably will happen in a few years.

My twitter block list is longer than a Scorsese movie. I get the need for it sometimes. People can be awful to each other online. I've seen a few threads here were I felt like diving in and getting mad as well.

But here, where people have usually come because of something pretty grim in their lives, it just doesn't sit well with me. So I try to keep out of fights and not block people, even where I think it might be advisable for what little is left of my sanity.

And sometimes even individual posts don't accurately describe the user - they might be having a rough patch or difficulty conveying meaning more carefully.

Remember many people here have existed in abusive environments or have to deal with crappy conditions on a daily basis. What may be a shoulder shrug to you is a bad reminder of an ugly past or present for another.

Much as people irl don't hang out regularly in places that make them uncomfortable or remain friends with negative people who treat them poorly, the block button exists so people can remove themselves from situations or people that are detracting from their use of this site.

I'm thinking that one day, when I'm bored, I will ignore everyone. EVERYONE. To see what the site looks like out of curiosity. The unignore them. Maybe, lol.

As AI gets smarter and smarter, expect crazy bots that can bypass every single security measure and roam all the forums online just like regular people do. We'll probably be having complete conversations with bots and direct messages with them without even knowing. Probably will happen in a few years.

At the time of this post, AI has an issue of cross platforming... so using multiple platforms to verify authenticity (burner discord account, random online chatroom outside of sasu) can assist. One day it might not be the case, but hopefully that 2FA will work into the near future.

ooo, that is a cool idea.. I will need to learn how to script in order to do it (while being careful not to overload the site... 2 seconds between script seems ok since the chat polls every second).. since thousands of users have left posts... but what if I ignore everyone who posted in X thread and refresh the page?

Update I did for 30 seconds or so... the thread showed as blank with an option to 'View ignored content', and a little pink banner to show I ignored that user. I clicked their nick and was able to unignore successfully.

I don't block anyone, blocking only works on the side of the user who pressed the button. The vast majority of stalkers and spies continue to collect everything you post, like and comment on with tools that drain your digital activity.

Not reading the insults only gives you the illusion of comfort and increases the risk of you exposing information that can be used against you. My hobby for a long time was digital privacy and security, blocking hardly prevents doxxing/extortion/exposure, only puts a blindfold on you.
