just curious to find out if being gay plays a bigger role in being suicidal

Being gay in a society where one is discriminated against because of homosexuality is definitely a factor for many suicidal gay people. I live in a very progressive country and my being gay has never been a huge deal so it has had no impact on my suicidality.
It does have a bigger role, clearly downplayed by media and society.
Also higher risk of drug addiction, homelessness, mental health problems in general, all these are factors in increased risk of suicide.
Promiscuity often in relationships and culture of being usually economically poorer at higher rate too are also not helpful.
All leads to general instability.
No easy answers or solution to this.

It for sure plays a bigger role. Growing up gay definitely wasn't easy for me.

percentage wise only about 7 percent of the population is gay in the uk, so you would expect a poll like this to show a 90 percent being straight and only 10 percent being gay.
Indeed. I do however wish to point out that these aren't inherent traits of homosexuality but rather emergent traits from how gay people are and have been treated throughout history, both on cultural and systematic levels.

Other. I'm asexual. I reckon there are a lot of people who are driven to suicide as a result of their sexual identity being squashed or misunderstood by society. Many of these are not hetero or homosexual.
I'm straight, and as unlikely as it sounds, if I were gay I would likely not be here because I've heard that gay people have lower standards when it comes to finding a partner, thus allowing me to find love more easily.
Suicide rate of LGBT people is much higher, so they are more likely to be here.

I'm straight but I find females very pleasant to look at.
I wouldn't think about sex if my surroundings didn't remind me. I'm in a relationship and feel the pressure even though he doesn't pressure me at all. It's almost easier to be alone, but then you are just that, alone.

Not sure if it's possible to go from bisexual to asexual, though that's how it feels. I don't really feel attraction towards anyone anymore these days, physical nor emotional.

I'm quite happily alone, as in single. I'm also unhappily alone as in very few friends. So yeah. I'm also sex averse so even though I'm nearly 30.. I've literally never even kissed anyone.. nothing remotely intimate with everyone. I wouldn't let anyone near me for sex I tell you that.
I'm pleased your partner doesn't pressure you but yes I understand that you feel that pressure. It's so hard

Straight, but people say my voice makes me sound like I'm gay. I really wish I was because I live in a place where it's acceptable enough and I'd probably be a lot happier that way.

I'm a couple letters of the LGBT+ acronym but being within those letters isn't what made me suicidal, it was extensive child abuse and neglect.

Anybody not fitting in with the status quo is more likely to be depressed or anxious thus suicidal thoughts, sexuality can be one of these many contexts.

I am not surprised the ratio of LGBT people here is quite high compared to the general population, as many many LGBT people struggle with mental health issues and suicidal thoughts. I'm a gay male btw (he/him).

Can you add more options to the poll? Bi, ace, trans, etc.? At least in the U.S. I believe there are more bi people than gay. (I put gay in the poll for now)
While I do agree with this statement to a certain degree, I don't necessarily think the "heteronormative people/heteronormative society" is the only reason why gay people struggle so much with mental health. I can only speak for myself but being a gay male, I feel a TON of pressure regarding my appearance/looks, it's just crazy especially on platforms like Grindr/Romeo etc. Of course straight people are superficial too but not to the extent of gay males (as other factors like social status and family planning play an important role in heterosexual dating). So we can't just blame the heteronormative society for our problems, the community itself plays a big role too.
