Hi to all who read this! It's my first post and I'm trying to understand the norms here a little better.

So, I really want to get more into replying to forums, but I get really nervous about replying to a forum that's more than like two weeks old. By the time I see the post, it already has like 20 replies and I fear my reply will just sound like I'm regurgitating what others have already stated. I might be into my own head too much, but I just want to understand what's the unspoken limit. This is, of course, excluding forum where it's a game involved.

So for those of you who have made a post before, what's the perceived time limit people have to reply before you start getting annoyed?

Also, sorry for my bad grammar.

I've wondered the same. I always feel like I'm committing a faux pas if the previous post was more than like a week old, but in reality I don't think anybody cares (if anything it's nice for conversations to continue after they've dropped off the first page). I think reviving older threads isn't done often more out of laziness/convenience than there being anything wrong with it.

In the case of really old threads though, this site has enough turnover that many of the previous posters might no longer be around. So it can be hard to continue old conversations, if that's the intention.

Forum motherfuckers seem to care a lot about necro'ing/necroposting. Personally, I've never cared. Fuck your shit, I will reply to your thread years after the fact and when half the replies are from long-deactivated or banned accounts.

I love going back through the Offtopic section and necroing posts. There are some fun threads to find in 600+ pages!

Edit to add: I will say check threads of people that ask about method advice. I once replied to a thread about hanging 3 years after it was posted. I do not even think they were around anymore. 😅
