So, I was on YouTube just scrolling things and a suicide video caught my attention about a 27 year old who CTB'd. However, the YouTube comments were calling SS evil in "encouraging" people to take their own lives. However as I have seen it that's not the case. This place is neutral, it is a place to seek comfort (in my opinion) in others who equally feel the same way that I do. Prochoice… How is telling someone not to ctb a bad thing? It's something that they want to do so who are we to stop them from making that choice? The best we can give is advice and insight. But prevention or even urging someone to do the act is simply not what is done. This community is uplifting in a way, believing that we have the right to go on our own time if we want to… What is wrong with that? How is that evil? In my opinion what's "evil" is making someone continue their existence when they really don't want to be existing. That's cruelty plain and simple…

It's to be expected that many people who don't experience feelings similar to we do to not understand them. Pro-lifers can be quite the ignorant types of people, though. No matter what you try to explain its more often than not it will not go through to them unless they are in that position themselves.

I personally am completely for pro-choice, and feel like a forum such as this does not encourage suicide. If anything - I'd say there are likely a fair amount of people who were possibly going to choose an unsafe method but had a change of thought after reading possible risks or other stories from places such as these; on top of that, simply being understood and having somewhere where people think similarly is something everyone deserves.

Either way, people should be able to choose if they want to be alive or not - and know what could possibly end up leaving them hurt/sick and alive. Free speech unfortunately is dwindling in our age.

At least here, I am not ostracized or simply told to kill myself, or to just do it already.

I agree- there is a whole lot more toxicity and bullying on regular social media sites. I've seen vile stuff just on YouTube and I've NEVER witnessed people encouraging others to suicide on here. At the most- we only respect one another's choice.

Still- I think some people find even the discussion of suicide as a viable option horrific. I expect they'd rather it wasn't discussed at all- or- only in the context of therapy. I don't think they really consider what happens to people when they talk about having ideation in the real world- ie. sometimes involuntary commitment which CAN make things worse for people. Plus- most people in real life I imagine will treat you VERY differently if they find out. But yeah- I find it sad how this place is constantly misrepresented.

What I do however have concerns with is a problem with the internet at large- that is- access to method information that I suppose it is possible minors could see. Personally, while I deeply sympathise with suicidal children (I was one,) I'm not convinced a place like this is that great for children. Our views on life and the world are typically jaded here- so- I'm not sure it's the most balanced environment to be in when you are still forming your ideas on the world. Plus- knowledge of more reliable methods that early on I imagine may affect things.

Honestly- it's the major subject I REALLY struggle with- minors. I also think it's the major one for most people. On the one hand- I think it's demeaning to say children can't be that depressed- or- can't make decisions for themselves. On the other, I do believe there is more potential for things to improve when you are young- and I do think that emotionally- we become more able to handle things as we age. Still- it's kind of ridiculous for me to say things WILL get better for them- as- I'm back here as a 43 year old! It's a really tricky one. Ideally- minors won't even become aware of this place until they have become adults. Which makes me extremely concerned when various YouTubers decide to make videos pointing their young audience here.

I agree that it's extreme cruelty wanting to force somebody to stay here when they really want to die, in fact that is inhumane. Nobody should be obligated to exist here just because some selfish people decided to procreate and it disgusts me how this society is so incredibly anti suicide. Continuing to exist should be a choice and other people shouldn't have any right to interfere with this, this world where there is an absence of available peaceful suicide method options undeniably is so hellish.

These people are just ignorant af. A psychopath who genuinely wants to help you will give you infinitely better advice than a pro lifer who never experienced suicidal thoughts. Most people are sheep, believe in whatever propaganda is going on (for example fake covid outbreak) and when it comes to topics like suicide they are no different, they still are the same brainless entities. People always try to "fit in" or else they may get judged that's why they act like zombies. You become a free thinker the moment you escape the social circle, get cancelled on twitter, everyone calls you a weirdo and you start trusting only yourself and someone people with similar mindset to yours. I'm not saying that people in this website are particularly smart, but the fact that we have a capacity of understanding that that youtube video isn't exactly what he explains suicide to be, is the first step on acknowledging that you're on a path of being a free thinker. That youtube video has a "social shield", write any negative comment about video regarding suicide and you'll get tons of replies telling that you're sick or should get some help.
