Considering the devastating effects of climate change on this planet and the atmosphere, I'm very confident that having children at this point is very selfish. And a lot of young people probably agree with me that we shouldn't throw people into this world when we're facing such a dim future. And I mean, from a scientific perspective, climate change is the number one existential threat not only to mankind but to all life on this planet. We are responsible for the sixth mass extinction event, we are actively destroying the ecosystem and with that permanently changing the living conditions on this planet. This is one more reason to be an anti-natalist.

I tend to believe the exact opposite is bound to happen during a crash
as the threat of death happens, the answer is often to lay more babies. this programmation is in our genes. women did not stop to give birth during war times or date nazis, on the contrary. and even dictators or serial criminals never have difficulties to find partners. just like the nations with the most poverty in deep shit also have the largest inflating population. even when the future appears to be rotted, you just don't stop the path of life that resists in reactive ways more than logical ones

I don't think it is possible. We will probably still be having children while eating insect protein rations in our survival bunkers.

There's a guy named Massimo Livi Bacci who's basically spent his very long career studying this. I read one of his books in college which was... a while ago, so I don't remember the specifics off the top of my head, but you could look into his work if you're interested in this question. And it looks like he even has a fairly recent book on it. The dude knows this shit backwards and forwards, he's got a better answer than any rando on the internet.

But the short answer is: No. There's a point in the industrialization of societies where birth rates decline, and this happened even before the advent of modern birth control methods. The population in many First World countries is graying as the birth rate drops. However, the First World is not the entire world. What is happening in wealthy, industrialized countries is not happening everywhere, and a lot of places are still in the agrarian phase of the cycle where having more kids equals more economic stability for the family. The population will continue to grow in less industrialized countries at an explosive rate, and First World countries will continue to gray as younger generations have fewer kids. It's a worldwide thing that's happening everywhere and it's part of a process that's been happening for centuries.

Of course humanity will eventually die out. The universe is expanding, the sun will eventually blow up and we will not be able to find another planet. Maybe spacestation but it needs resourses.

There is a theory about supercivilizations, like in supercivilization type b or something the humanity should know how to draw energy from the home star of the planet system, in our case, the sun. We can't even do that so we will not make it through in the expanding space. Universe is still a mystery and we know nothing.

Oddly enough, while I'm pretty "iffy" on the idea of me being able to survive for another six months, I have absolutely zero problems believing that humanity will eventually move our bullshit to other locales. Once we've depleted our resources here and adequately fucked this planet up I've no doubt that there's a bunch of assholes who will figure out a way to fuck up some other planets as well. Never underestimate the determination of capitalists to find new resources to exploit.

Yep but the universe is expanding. It will take some superspeed and tons of energy to get to another galaxy for example. As I said earlier, the only way maybe would be to draw energy from the home star

There are many ways the Earth could be destroyed by a meteor, gamma rays , nearby star going super nova etc. Also imo Artificial intelligence and super Artificial intelligence will soon be here so that will soon make humans irrelevant, outdated and so last century anyway

That's my fear as well. I truly hope that humanity is gone soon enough and that we won't be able to engineer our way out of our predicaments. Humanity "thriving" far off into the future is a horrible thing to consider.

I think people mean that life is suffering and noone asked to be brought to this world and suffer so maybe extinction is for the best? Because life in this world will be harder and harder because of space stuff, even our planet earth - natural disasters and other shit..

My empathy is for those suffering. Everyone that enjoys life ultimately enjoys it at the expense of the sufferers. The system of life itself is rotten and should be shut down.

I'm not. I'm saying that I think that humanity will keep doing the same sort of stuff it's been doing for a couple thousand years, but in space. "From the species that brought you 'Smallpox Blankets' and 'Slavery,' we bring you... Interplanetary Colonization!"

I think they're talking out their arse. If you're dead you won't care so let them get on with it. People pretend this is why they're depressed. It isn't, they don't give a fuck about anyone else. They can't just die they've got to take everyone with them. Pathetic and psychotic in equal measure.

I think It will be matter of geological catastrophies or meteors. They can really cause havoc and kill entire species and ecosystems. If volcano exploaded and covered sun for just a week we would all die out of starvation because of how tight we run on food.
